Marathon, Shopping & Chicken Parm

Running:

I want to run a marathon.

Yep, it’s true πŸ˜€

I’ve decided that I am going to really throw it out there and say “I WANT TO RUN A MARATHON” – even as I type those words I hear this voice inside my head saying, “do you?, can you?”

It scares me.

I think it’s time though. I feel the desire pumping through me. It’s a challenge I want to complete. I know I can do it. Do I have the time to train? probably not. Do I have the desire to train? Hell ya! So I think I could make it work.

I’ve decided that I would like my first marathon to be the Niagara Falls International Marathon. Niagara Falls seems like a great location. Apparently it’s the only marathon in the world that begins in one country (NY, USA) and finishes in another(ON, Canada).

I am very excited!!!

So excited that I’ve been practicing what it must be like to finish….

Logan just loved it so much he not only wanted in on the fun but kept saying "AGAIN" lol

I haven’t registered yet but I will asap!

with:

I woke up to this party in my bed on Sunday (ya, that’s right I didn’t do my long run :( so sad)………..don’t mind the blur that is Colin πŸ˜›

We had to go out and get a few things but we were all sick so it didn’t last very long…

We ended up finding Logan a brand new – not nearly as annoying car seat. This was given to us by my brother in law and it was going to expire this year. Look for the new luxury model in future posts πŸ˜‰

On a completely random note I saw this while we were trying to see how much it would cost to get a zipper replaced = $55! = SO NOT WORTH IT! but at least we had the option of making our bandaids BLING-ified!

I’m not going to lie, as much as I thought this was ridiculous I kind of wish I had had these when I was a little girlΒ in college πŸ˜‰

Spatulas:

Due to the fact everyone in the house has a cold we decided it’d be a great idea to make something easy, hearty and big enough that Colin would have leftovers for the week. (ie: I wouldn’t have to worry about making something till at least wednesday)

We made a delectable Chicken Parmesan Casserole that we found on Sweet & Savory By Sarah:

We definitely loved it :) We made spaghetti pasta to go with it and in hindsight I’d throw the whole can of sauce in as we ended up having to add more to give the noodles and good coating. As Sarah states, this would be fine on it’s own too :) **** (4 stars)

Questions:

1. did you get scared when you signed up for your first marathon?? first ironman? first century?? first….anything?

I get scared of everything but I always push myself through it because I know the feeling at the end is worth every step!

2. Bandaid bling?? – tell me you don’t want it πŸ˜‰

3. Chicken Parm? YAY or Nay??

I am not a huge fan. It’s good but I’d much rather have fries and a burger!

  1. YAY!!! thats so exciting..i’m signing up for my first marathon too next week (Chicago) and i’m terrified..especially because i’ve been plagued by injuries over the past year. but i’m really excited for the experience and its gonna be hard but so worth it. i’m so happy for you!

    i totally want band-aid bling!

i feel ya on the chicken parm..im ok with it but def not something i order or eat for the most part..lol that casserole looks ABFAB though!

  2. OMG I can’t believe the bandaid bling! That’s HILARIOUS! Is it wrong that when I first saw it I was like, THAT’S dumb, it doesn’t even come with bandaids. Then I read the box and was slightly more OK with it… hahaha.

My half is in 6 days (!!!!!!!!!!!!) and I am still terrified, but the fear keeps you training :)

I LOVE chicken parm, and it is one of my hubby’s fave. I am going to have to try this recipe!

    • hey I took the pic b/c I thought it was silly, but then they did grow on me…may have to go back and get them πŸ˜‰ hahaha

and YES I am sooooo excited!!!! as I’ve plastered all over your blog :) I can’t wait. you are going to rock it girl!!!!!

and you should try it if it’s your hubs fav….it was sooooooo much easier than the traditional chicken parm.

  3. I believe that anyone who is healthy can run a marathon. You need to be creative with your time and be able to carve out increasingly large blocks of time on a weekend day for a long run, but everything else can be fit into the typically busy modern life. Plus you already have your finishing chute moves down.

It’s cool you let your dog on the bed. My wife doesn’t.

    The chicken looks amazing.

    • Thanks Patrick :) I know I can dedicate 3 runs a week plus my Sunday long run. and yes, the finishing photos are the easy part πŸ˜‰ haha

and I don’t let me dog sleep with us, but Rex is always welcome up on the bed for a Sunday morning snuggle πŸ˜‰

    • Ya, I wish I could afford to meet you in Chicago :( but alas it just isn’t in the cards….it’ll remain one of my retirement goals. lol

and any race distance scares me. but I just want to feel “that” feeling, you know?

  4. I want to run a marathon. In the last few months, a few of my blogging friends have done their first. The race reports make me cry and even more sure I want to do one. My biggest debate is when to do it. I’ve debated this fall, but I’m not sure I want to go into marathon training right after my half iron training. Decisions, decisions…

    • I completely agree….was Michaels one of them??? her disney marathon vid put me over the edge! I wanted to run one so bad after watching that!!!!! and I also sometimes watch “spirit of the marathon” over and over again while riding the indoor bike.

Your situation is a bit different b/c you’re already training for something pretty crazy πŸ˜› so maybe play it by ear :)

  5. Yes yes yes!!!!! I’m so excited for you! You will dominate that marathon, and it sounds like an amazing one to choose! Can you see the falls from the route? When is it?? Yay for you!

  6. As you know, the marathon still scares me- even though I love it so much. Get signed up! That’s one of the hardest parts. If you have the desire, you can make it work. There are a lot of 3 day/week training plans out there. I only run 4 days and I ran what I felt to be a successful first marathon. Yay!!!

    • I can’t sign up until they open up the sign up :) but I will asap!!!! I want to do it and I have a great feeling about that one. YAY!!! for marathons and yes, I am going to finish my 10k training and move in full speed to marathon in March, as this race isn’t until the fall :)

  7. YAYAYAYA for the marathon!!! You are totally ready girl just sign up. I was scared death to run my first but it was such an amazing experience. πŸ˜€ I am getting incredibly happy for you.

Food looks scrumption. You all take care and get well soon.

  8. Exciting! When I got it into my head that I wanted to do a marathon, there really wasn’t any stopping. I decided I wanted to do one shortly after doing a 5-miler (ha!) and started building up to do a half in the spring but totally knew I wanted to do an October marathon as long as I survived the half. I think I signed up a week after my first half. So, yeah, totally think you can do it if you want to and build up to it…doesn’t mean you’ll be any less scared come race day though!

    • I feel that same way….I am only training for a 10k but after some of the long runs I’ve had I just keep feeling more and more amazing! I’d love to be able to say I did it :) and I’m sure I’ll be MORE scared come race day πŸ˜‰ haha

  9. AHHH!! So exciting that you have taken the first step towards running a marathon…declaring your intention :). I told myself when I started running half marathons that as soon as running became such a habit for me and halfs were no longer extremely challenging I would do a marathon and I’m so glad I did. The training was of course 10x harder than a half and I’m honestly not sure I would do another but you are going to love the entire experience!! Plus that Niagara one sounds really cool…do you have to go through customs during the race…hehe :)

  10. Oh wow that is so exciting Ali!!! I definitely think you can do it though, your training is amazing! I’m so excited for you now :-)
(And Logan you are just too cute, seriously, I want a cuddle!)
Hi blur that is Colin, you have an amazing family :-)
Food sounds delicious, I need some comforting dishes too, so much work …
And by the way just thought I’d mention that I love the way you do these themed ‘running with spatulas’ posts, such a fab idea!

    • Awww Logan loves cuddles, I try to get as many as possible before he hates me πŸ˜› hahaha and thanks for your support Sophie! I am so excited now that it’s “out there” :)

  11. That is so awesome! Good for you!!! I have always thought it would be cool to run in a marathon, but always scare myself out of it! Good for you for having that motivation!

Your little boy is so adorable! Already excited for mom to cross the finish line! :)

At first I saw the blingin bandages and thought this is silly, who thought of that. But yes you are right, I would have loved that! And probably still would…

  12. Awesome goal!! You can definitely do it… give yourself plenty of time to build up, and you will be fine. Yes! I was so nervous signing up for my first marathon, and I’m nervous again contemplating a second. It’s a big undertaking, but such a great goal and an amazing feeling of accomplishment.

  13. I want to run my first full marathon this year too! I am totally scared by the distance though. Its 4 hours of running. I think I would be more inclined to train for it if i had someone to do it with. 26 miles…yikes

(can you tell it makes me nervous?)

    That chicken parm looks fantastic!!!

    • ya, maybe MORE for me! I hope it will only take me around 4hrs but who knows. It took me 2 to do 11miles πŸ˜› hahaha but that wasn’t during a race.

and yes, it makes me nervous just typing about it right now πŸ˜‰

    • hahahah I hope you feel that good too Courtney :) won’t it be amazing once we’re done!!!!!!!! and I think you’ll be able to do a fist pump or too, even though you’ll be so tired. lol

  14. YAY YOUR FIRST MARATHON! I was supposed to run my first this past year but had to stop training because I developed chronic fatigue. It was horrible! I was just trying to do way to much at one time and my body couldn’t handle it.
I realllyyyy want to run one though.

    • Hannah, thanks for visiting :) and YAY!!!! I am so excited πŸ˜€

that sucks that you had to go through all that :( I think if you took it easy this time around you could run one for sure! πŸ˜€ xo

  15. Awesome news! That race sounds amazing. Niagara Falls is so beautiful, I went there in 2000. That’s pretty cool that it goes between the two countries :)

I was terrified when I signed up for my first full but it was an amazing experience, even with lots of setbacks, that I will never forget. I didn’t do a full last year because of my injury but I’m looking for to TWO fulls this year :) :) :)

    • you should come out! please then we could have a blogger meet up :) so cool!!!! and thanks Amanda. I’m so excited to share it and get all your feedback πŸ˜€

  16. AHHH that is such exciting news!! I am sorry to hear you are still feeling crappy, but at least you have something amazing to look forward to! When is that marathon? Could be a nice one to look out for!

Also, that casserole is probably something I should think about making for Tripp – he LOVEs chicken parm!

    • Danielle, its not till October, so I’ll have plenty of time to train, fall down, get back up and train some more πŸ˜‰ hahahaha

If you make it for him make sure you let me know, as I love pic of tripp πŸ˜‰ hahaha

  17. I remember hitting submit for both my HIM and marathon entry and then thinking, “what have I done!” It was a great feeling, well not great but exhilerating…ok, it was just a second of anxious nervousness. But yeah, I remember. I finished my first marathon in Dec 2011! and my time sucked, so I am doing the same race again in 2012! Yeahhh

    • hahahah oh James, that is probably how I’ll feel too. WOW! so you just did your first full!!!! amazing :) I’ll have to go and creep that recap.

and way to go! trying for a better time in 2012. Doesn’t 2012 just feel like a good year for AWESOME!? πŸ˜€

  18. OMG – I feel like we just wrote the same post today! How funny…Good for you on getting the marathon bug, we’d love to support you and cheer you on and have you do the same for us by joining Team Sweat Pink!

If you want to join us, send me an email at jamie at fitapproach.com and we can talk! πŸ˜‰

    • WOW! you’re doing an 100miler! I only know one other person that’s done one. You’re crazy girl πŸ˜‰ I’ll totally look into your fitapproach :) THANKS!

  19. SOOO exciting!! great news, and that’s so cool about the bi-country perk. πŸ˜‰ can’t wait to read all about ur prep…don’t be a’scared, i always say i Oprah can do it i’m pretty sure anyone can!! hehe

oh man, u KNO we all want to bling our bandages…mmmmk!

    • Cait I’ll need your help constructing a meal plan πŸ˜› hahaha I love all your posts b/c they are so informative for newbies like me.

I’m pretty sure I may cut my finger JUST to wear some bling πŸ˜‰ haha

  20. $55 to replace a zipper!! Seriously, I just don’t charge enough.

Those blingy bandaids just wouldn’t go down so well in my testosterone-filled household. I can just imagine Sam, my 24 yo, skinning his knee at soccer and me running onto the field with one of those. The thought just fills my heart with glee.

The Niagara Falls Marathon sounds like the perfect one for your first. Get on your computer and do it right now!

    • ya, we left with a broken zipper….for some reason Colin didn’t trust me with a sewing machine πŸ˜‰

and bandaid bling for boys would be even better πŸ˜‰ hahahaha

Oh and they haven’t opened up registration yet πŸ˜‰

  21. YAY!!! im so excited for you!! you can do it!! it is such a daunting thought, but SO amazing! you are going to be great!!

i love that bandaid bling! id totally wear it

  22. Wahoo!! Congrats on the decision! Trust me, you might regret it later :) Kidding, it can be a very rewarding experience!

That chicken parm casserole look awesome!!

  23. Yea for the marathon!!! I’m so excited for you! So, you have until the end of October to train, right?! That’s plenty of time… you’ll totally rock it! I don’t know a lot about the marathon, but it sure would be cool to say you did it! Not to mention that with finishline shots like those, you have to do it! Love that Logan was so into it! :)

I don’t know about Chicken Parm… I can’t even think of the last time I had it. I’m more of a cheese pizza girl if I’m doing Italian. And band-aid bling?! What the heck? I used to fake injuries to get band-aids as a kid… I’m sure things would have gotten really out of hand if we had had bling band-aids instead of just Little Mermaid ones. haha.

  24. I’m nervous about my first TRI I signed up for.

I’d take the bandaid bling but probably wouldn’t pay for it.

I like to eat and try different stuff. I get bored with the same ole’, same ole’

  25. The band aid bling is AWESOME! I would be all over that! I saw that recipe on Sarah’s blog and really want to try it. I might have to this weekend. :)
