Runners should never….

…Get bangs ;)

side story – Logan actually noticed right away and kept saying “mom, new hair, new hair”

I got a much needed haircut yesterday and Helen, my hairdresser always does a great job. We both agreed that running would “hate the bangs” – and it does. Good thing I have some active bands!

My bangs had finally grown out (only took a year) and I could put them behind my ear…..but Colin always loves the bangs so he convinced me to get them. I never know which I like more.

This is what usually happens. Hair grows, I say “I should get my bangs cut again” – then as soon as they’re cut I say “oh man, why did I get bangs cut?! they are so annoying” and I say “Colin, never let me get bangs again!” – then I do this all over again.

That’s why the great thing about hair is – it grows! ;)

At least it looks hot in a ponytail….

(so for my non-altered pics….don’t mind the bad skin) haha

Questions:

1. have you ever had bangs?? or do you?? if not, would you get them??

2. bangs on adults…. yay or nay??

I think some face shapes need bangs. The difference is like night and day. I actually hate myself with bangs but Colin LOVES them and I mean, looks at me like it’s the first day we met loves me  ….I just can’t say no to it ;)

**PS: thanks for all your comments yesterday **

  1. I love the bangs! I can’t have bangs because I have a cowlick right in the front of my hair. If I attempted to have bangs they would probably just stick straight out and not lay down. :(

      • Yeah, I have one in the back of my hair too. It isn’t nearly as bad as when I was young but I still have it. A lot of my school pictures growing up are of me with barrettes in my hair, attempting to tame the cowlick. Not a good look. Oh well.

  2. Ali, you look GREAT with bangs!!! You look awesome!
I don’t have bangs and never have. I just don’t have a face for bangs.
Bangs on adults depends on the adult. Some look good and others don’t. You definitely do!

  3. I’ve had bangs forever and I love them! I just own a TON of bondi bands and just throw one on when I run and they are no problem. The best thing about bands is you can not really do anything to your hair and it looks styled :) You look GREAT with bangs!

  4. awww you look pretty! i LOVE bangs on some people, i just dont think it would work well for my face at all.

you talking about how much colin loves them made me smile…too cute!!

  5. I think you are one of those lucky people that can rock either….bangs or no bangs so LUCKY YOU! I on the other hand tried ONLY ONCE to grow out my bangs and with my big, thick hair, and round chubby face/cheeks the long bangs did NOTHING for me. I will always have short bangs and longer hair to try and elongate my face.

    (I am truly a hair dressers nightmare…ha!)

    • thanks Kathy – yes some people just look really good with them. I think you look great :D

and I always question my hair dresser even though she’s been cutting my hair for over 8 years – just b/c I have had some bad experiences (not with her but you can never be too careful when someone is holding scissors) ;)

  6. I think I did (have bangs) at one point, it’s been awhile.

And yeah, it’s all about face shape, length, volume, straightness of the hair, etc. Shouldn’t discount bangs solely on the basis of age.

The above submitted for what it’s worth.

    • haha ;) my son has bangs. that’s true. My hairdresser says I have an oval face shape and thus can pull off anything. although now that people are calling me cute I just don’t know :P haha

  7. Your bangs are so cute! My hair is very thin so I feel bangs end up looking very greasy very quickly. I have been rocking the side-swoop bangs for about 8 years now. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Although, my split ends are getting a bit out of control. I could probably use a trim!

    • hahaha – you’re right. you shouldn’t fix it if it’s working, but I like to change it up every once in a while. Keeps Colin interested at least hahaha ;)

  8. I have bangs now…and use I am addicted to ChickBands because of it. I have like 20 between the girls and I!

Bangs as an adult, YAY. I think if they are done right, totally look hot!

  9. Love the bangs! I do agree with you that they can be bothersome, especially when exercising. I have recently cut my bangs again, but not as short as yours. They are more a side swept style. They graze my eyes when they are falling down. Which makes me think about the fact that I haven’t updated my blog with the new hair!!

    • yes, new pics!!!! we need to see your bangs. and I normally have side swept too….but I have never given straight across bangs a chance…and to be honest in a month they will be side swept bangs, so I’m not worried ;)

  10. You look cute girl! If you like the bangs and they are good for a change then rock them. I had bangs my entire life until I was a freshman in college. I grew them out and I’ll never go back to bangs!

    • Colin just texted me “well you knew you were going to hate them. now I get to hear you talk about growing them out again. Just give them an honest try” – so I will rock them! thanks!!

  11. I think I know that I should NOT have bangs now unless I want to look “adorable” and/or “cute” —-> currently googling “how to look sexy with bangs ;) hahaha, which is what I’d like to look like ;D

  12. LOOOOOOOOVEE THE BANGS, they look beautiful on you!

I also got a haircut this weekend, it was 5.99 at the local cheap hair place because I desperately needed a trim before that prohibition party! That totally beats out the usual super super expensive haircuts that I get with my highlights.

And by the way it had been like over 8 months since my last haircut, ridiculous….

  13. Haven’t had bangs in many, many years but it’s more because I’m lazy. I might actually have to do something with my hair to attempt to go outside the house!

    • thank you….and your bangs look FAB – I wish I could do mine like that…you’ll have to tell me how you get them to look so nice when you sweep them to the side once mine grow out a bit ;)

  14. I just got bangs. I hadn’t had them in a long time and you are right. They are a pain in the ass when running. I have taken to wearing a bandana to keep them out of my eyes!

  15. Girl you look freaking adorable with bangs. Love it!!! I totally wish I could pull bangs off but I’d look like a complete idiot. Rock it girl because you look hott!

  16. oh man. i got bangs for the first time since childhood when i first started running…fall 2010. i was fairly overweight at the time…that fact + sweaty bangs were never a good look for me. good thing my hair grows quick. bahaha. you on the other hand…should keep up with that vicious cycle you mentioned because bangs look gorgeous on you! love the ponytail pic!

    • hahaha thanks Julia ;) I’ll most likely continue to cycle b/c I can never make up my mind. and the pictures you painted of sweaty bangs stuck to your forehead made me giggle ;) xo

    • I love longer bangs – they are easy to twist up and toss a bobby pin in ;) voila no bangs…..these are no option. but thank you I am feeling better about them already! :D

    • argh don’t you hate that?! Although I’ve never noticed that you had bad hair. I think you look great. I once had a cut and is was so bad people called it the “millennium mullet” b/c it looked like it was short in the front with a panel of long in the back – AWFUL!

  17. I love the bangs!! You look great!

I used to have them until I donated all my hair, well the length of my hair anyway. I let my bangs grow out but now I realize my forehead is WAY too high and I need them back. since I want to donate again, I am trying to wait until the big cut to get them put in.

    • Oh that’s awesome! My friend and I donated our hair once. It;s nice to get it all chopped off when you grow it so long. You should totally get bangs again when you go in for the chop :)

  18. LOVE the bangs on you- they look great! I haven’t had bangs since I was 4 or 5. I’ve thought about it, but I am scared. I have a massive forehead, so maybe they would help cove that up ;) .

      • solved ;) and thanks so much. I have never noticed your big forehead, but I am a firm believer that people with larger foreheads look great with bangs. If you’re too nervous for the straight across just do some side swept ones to “test the waters”

I will say that bangs are annoying when they are short – so just tell the person cutting you hair you need to be able to clip them back. however, they are easy to wash and just grab a round brush and blow dry – simple :) haha

  19. I’ve had strait across bangs and I’ve loved them. I don’t like them so much on me now because my face is chubbier then it used to be in high school so it kind of looks weird, haha.

  20. The bangs look great! I’ve actually been thinking about doing it but I’m scared. lol They’re such a commitment in terms of how long it takes for them to grow out if I hate them…We’ll see. I’m in dire need of a hair cut!

    • Oh you should….maybe start with some longer ones you can sweep to the side….unless you’re really good with change b/c the first time I had bangs I got impulsive and cut them myself – they were horrible and when the hairdresser fixed them they were super short – I cried.

So totally go for it, but do it in steps ;)

  21. DAANNNGG girl, you look smokin with the bangs!! I used to have some off to the side when I was younger, but grew them out so I could braid my hair again :) Overall, they weren’t too bad!

  22. I definitely agree it depends on the shape of the face who can pull of bangs or not! And especially how you style them, those high curled bangs I rocked in the 90s, pretty sure no shape of face could pull those off anymore! ha
They look great on ya though! I love them!

  23. The bangs are super cute! I actually got bangs cut one time but unfortunately I have an ugly cowlick and they don’t hang right…so I just stick to the swoop bangs.

    • Yes! you’re totally right….depending on what kind of hair you have depicts what kind of bangs you can have. My hairdresser told me i had to have thicker bangs ;) but side ones are easier and look great while adding that flair :D yours look great

    • haha that is funny. I’m sure they looked fine. Your hubby doesn’t know what he’s missing ;) you’d probably look awesome with them and that sweet red hair of yours xo

    • hahaha – that’s a great reason….my forehead is super wrinkly…I’m convinced b/c I’ve always done over-exaggerated facial expressions….now I regret it ;) haha

  24. Yay for BANGS! I love them! You look super hot!!! (though that’s nothing new) I love that Logan noticed and was excited about them. I’m the same with cutting my hair… whenever I do it I think, “never let me do this again” and then I always end up doing it again! Haha. The best part about hair is that we can change up the style and color and eventually it’ll grow back. I’ve had bangs a bunch of times. I really like them, but I think they do get in the way running. The only cut I’ve ever really regretted is really short (boy short) hair. I cried for days. Haha

Love, love, love the hair!!! :)

    • Oh Jess, always so kind ;) and I KNOW! I’m the same way. I used to grow my hair, then cut it, grow then cut, now I just keep it long and do the back and forth with the bangs ;)

and I’ve had one of those cuts too :( super short cried and cried :(

  25. They look great! Adults can totally carry bangs off – it’s all about face shape and your hair. I have such thin hair that if I had the bangs I wanted I’d have a bald spot :( I have to settle for a short layer frame instead. Work it!

  26. They look good on you!

Me? I had bangs in high school, and probably never again. I think I look funny with them…and I get annoyed if any hair escapes from the ponytail, I can only imagine what I would do with bangs!

    • hahahha – ya they take some getting used to….if Colin didn’t like them, I’d never have them. Hair grows though, so I’m never too worried about it :D

  27. i LOVE them on you! They look super cute! i totally feel you on the bangs and running, they would drive me crazy

i dont have bangs, but i think i would look bad with them

  28. See, I’ve just been thinking about getting bangs again, and wondering if I’d regret it. I have a really long face, so bangs do me a lot of good. BUT, I’m definitely concerned they’d drive me crazy.

You look great with them though!

    • you know what I can actually bobby pin these back and they haven’t been as bad as I was anticipating. I think it was when I cut my own – they were so short and there was no going around them ;) if they look good on you I think you may need to take the risk :D
