Our 1st Anniversary – Paper

So yesterday was amazing :)

I don’t know if you guys know this but traditionally there are specific gifts that you are supposed to give for each anniversary. I had no idea about this!

but luckily…..I’m psychic ;)

So I made Colin a scrapbook album all out of paper! YAY. Unfortunately this is a E for everyone rated blog and so I hope you’ll all appreciate the fact that I can only show you the cover of what I made for him….

Yep, that’s right ladies – that is my nude body on the cover behind one of his guitars ;) and that book is probably the best creative piece I’ve ever produced. I had to take some of the pics by myself, get my friend Char to come over and make me beautiful to take more, edit them all like crazy, cut cardstock, print photos. I even made different sections and header page photos and made it look sleek, masculine and sexy all while maintaining my class at the same time. I even put those letters on the front. I am so proud of myself! <—– I have never scrapbooked before!

Judge away but when your husband bugs you for a little something, something I bet you wish you had a hot book like that you could just throw at him instead ;) ha! you know those nights I speak of….the ones with the headaches ;P

————————

Colin also kept the tradition of paper going on (though he had known about the year traditions) and gave me the best present ever!!!!!!!

Colin also got me a single red rose – it was something he used to do back when we were teens: buy me a rose for every month we were together – so now it’s years. Can’t wait till 60 years: diamonds and 60 roses! lol

*I just realized there are specific flowers for each year too…..but I like roses!

We went to this hidden gem Thai restaurant we had found while I was pregnant and we not only love the food, but the atmosphere is worth the trip….

Every table and chair is made out of trees! <—- I realize all wood comes from trees but you know what I mean, I think it’s tree roots. There are real pillows on the chairs, a waterfall and amazing art and decorations all over.

We shared taro spring rolls and I got sweet & sour tofu while Colin got an a la carte pad thai he constructed himself :)

It was just nice to get out! Thanks so much to Carrie who took Logan while we were out. FYI: Logan loves her son Tyler. So much so that I get to hear about him almost everyday :)

Year 2 is “cotton I have no idea what I’m going to get but I’ll think about it when the time comes.

I LOVE YOU BABE!!!! xoxoxox

Questions:

1. did you know about the anniversary gift traditions?? do you follow them or march to your own beat?

I think now that I know about them, I’ll follow them. I am way more romantic than I let on so I suppose that’s the only area I’m traditional ;)

2. ever take any Boudoir shots of yourself?

I highly recommend it – extremely liberating. Especially when you’re in a relationship :)

3. what’s the last concert you went to??

I think it was Radiohead….which is sad because that was years ago. Unless you count my husbands band :P

PS: don’t forget to enter my Sweat Pink GIVEAWAY!!!!!

  1. My husband and I have been married for 11 years, and I’m sad to say I have never followed the gift tradition. And I call myself a romantic. SIGH.

Congratulations on your anniversary! Sounds like you had a great time!

    • That’s ok Mandy! I’m sure you got better gifts b/c of it ;) next year is Cotton!!!! who wants cotton?? what is he going to buy me….pajamas?? lol

  2. For anniversaries and things (Im not married so I dont follow any of the married traditions) I make cards and give silly wee gifts :)

I havent ever taken any boudoir shots but I want to one day! I think it would be quite lovely if done classily! Was it scary to do?

I honestly cant remember the last one I went to…Sadtimes! xox

    • Not scary at all. Maybe more so for me now because I’m not nearly as confident with my body as I was before becoming a mother. However it was fine because I did a lot of them with my camera and tripod, self timer alone and then when my g/f came over we just drank ;) lol

Some tips – wear heels, do your hair and make up and remove all clutter! we even took down framed photos off the wall and draped stuff over the couch and whatnot.

SO FUN!!!!! ….and yes, they’re all super classy. Trash is for porn ;)

    • Thanks so much Heather. I was soooooooo proud of myself! It turned out better than I thought. I think the fact that I glued the pics on the black cardstock and scrapbooked them made it 10,000X more sexy! and professional looking. (if you ever do that for Dan ;P) I knew I didn’t just want to toss them in an album.

    • Thanks Danielle :) and I’ve never seen them….so weird. I think this tour is going to be amazing though. I run to them all the time, their positivity is sometimes what gets me through those tough miles ;)

  3. Happy anniversary Ali and Colin!! :-) It looks and sounds like you had an absolutely wonderful day!

I love that you did a paper themed gift, I’ve love to stick to that tradition when (if) I get married. I also think your scrap book is pretty damn fabulous ;-) I’m sure Colin loved it! His gift for you is lovely too :-)

The restaurant you ate at sounds brilliant, all of the food looks so delicious!

I’ve never taken any boudoir shots before, I can imagine how it feels liberating but I think I’d be too nervous!

  4. We’ve been married for 3 years and we have followed the “traditional” gifts every year. I think its fun and memorable. This yeas was leather and I gifted the husband with a leather bookmark & he gifted me with a leather key chain – both have our wedding anniversary & the longitude/latitude of our wedding location on them.

I love your scrapbook idea, and I bet your hubs loved it too. So personal and so creative.

  5. We have loosely done anniversary traditions so far but I think it’ll probably fade soon. :) I did the boudoir photo thing before we got married…I’m still not exactly sure why I did it, very unlike me! Happy Anniversary!

  6. Happy Anniversary! That gift is so creative, I love it! I just don’t have that in me, I’m jealous. LOL I’m not a fan of Thai, but that restaurant looks really nice. Congratulations guys and enjoy the concert! The last concert that I went to was Stevie Nicks & Rod Stewart last year. It was a blast even though no one was standing because the median age was 70 except for a few of us young folks! LMAO

  7. Looks like a great anniversary and I had no idea about these anniversary gifts.

I think Peter would be thrilled to receive such a scrap book – alas I would need to find someone who wants to photograph this sexiness LOL.

I can’t remember my last concert because I am getting old – but my next one is in June – Foster the People – Central Park!

  8. yay, sounds like a GREAT anniversary. i’m LOVING that scrapbook idea, i’m sure Colin appreciated it as well :)

I’m not sure what me and kev will end up doing if we get married…we do tend to march to the beat of our own drum, lol so we’ll see what happens.

I’m glad you guys got to get out and have a nice dinner..it looks like such a sweet time!

  9. Happy Anniversary!! Looks like you had a great day :)

We didn’t follow the traditional gifts for our first anniversary because we just went on a trip instead. We’re doing that this year too, going to Chicago, so we probably won’t get anything additional either. I kind of like the idea of just going on a trip every year on/around our anniversary.

The last concert we went to was 311, unless you count when I interpreted for O.A.R.!!

  10. Sounds like a great anniversary! And ooo la la to your gift! I dont think I could EVER do something like that. I am too self conscious and I am paranoid of snoopy eyes.

  11. NOT romantic at all over here….although I am sure my hubby would love a book like that…he will not be getting one any time soon..ha!

WE are going on 17 years this fall…I wonder what that gets? Probably more fat cells, beer guts, and migraines! ;-)

  12. I had no idea there were specific gifts for each year! I don’t think that my parents ever did that. Almost every anniversary of my parents, my dad gets my mom flowers which she hates because the cats eat them. But he gets them every year! She just has to deal with it . ;)

  13. 1. did you know about the anniversary gift traditions?? do you follow them or march to your own beat?
I knew about them but we don’t follow them. We rarely get each other anniversary gifts. Though for our 20th I pulled off the biggest surprise ever. I bought my husband a harley. He had no idea and cried like a little girl in front of our friends when it pulled up in front of our house. He always spoils me so I thought I should return the favor.

    2. ever take any Boudoir shots of yourself?
A really long time ago when we were dating. We were separated for 2 years when I was stationed in Europe so they were to remind him that I loved him and not to cheat! :0 They really weren’t risky because I am just too shy.

    3. what’s the last concert you went to??
The last concert I went to was Jason Aldean. Rocked!

  14. There are 2 lists for anniversary gifts… Traditional and Modern. Have a google and see for yourself.

Glad you had a nice celebration.

  15. HAPPY ANNIVERSAIRE!!!
That is a rockstar idea for a gift for Colin. I think that’s creative, fun, sexy and wonderful. Shows a strong marriage to feel confident and comfortable giving such an intimate gift.

    Get’em girl! :)

  16. I freakin’ LOVE that gift idea!

    Paper [check]
    Homemade w/love [check]
    Creative {check, check]
    Hot [check]

Not only does your man love it & can marvel at all the sexy pics whenever he wants etc. etc. It’s something you’re really proud of today, and will definitely be still when you’re 60;)

I did know about the anniversary gift traditions, and usually give my close married friends accordingly. Marching to your own beat is good too, and if I ever get married, I’ll probably do both:)

Awesome post — sounded like a lovely first year wedding anniversary — congratulations:)

    • Oh thanks so much Jenn :) that means a lot. I was so excited about the gift that I forgot I’m a blogger and thus would end up having to tell everyone :P lol

and I like the idea of mixing things up for gifts. Who knows what I’ll come up with next year. ;)

  18. Happy Anniversary! I never followed the anniversary tradition thing. I usually always want something and he gets it for me but it’s usually something simple and inexpensive. I don’t let him buy me roses anymore because he was spending way too much money on them! We make it a point to go out to dinner every anniversary and this year will be 13 years for us! LUCKY 13!!

  19. We have never followed the gift thing. Honestly, we usually don’t get each other anything (for our anniversary). We usually just use the money we would spend on gifts and go to a really nice dinner or have a nice dinner at home and open some expensive wine. It may sound lame but a few times while I was going to school our anniversary fell on a school night so when you don’t get home until 9pm it makes it hard to do much. :)
No boudoir pics for me. No one wants to see that. :)
Last concert I went to was Heart and Journey (I think). We might go to Iron Maiden this summer. Yeah, we are stuck in the 80′s. :)

  20. Happy anniversary!!! I love the gift you made for your husband. I have never even thought of anything like that. I think that it is a fab gift and idea. So glad that your anniversary was so great :)

  21. WHAT?! Coldplay?! Lucky girl!!!
I’ve ALWAYS wanted to do something like that! I love the idea! I had a friend who made her husband a calendar! Turned out so cute!
Scrapbook is a great idea! Perfect for those “headache” nights! ;) haha
That place looks so fun! So happy it looks like you two had a great anniversary!!! :)

  22. Happy Anniversary!! That restaurant looks beautiful!
We don’t really follow any anniversary traditions, except that we have gone to the same restaurant for the past 3 years.
Such a fun, creative anniversary gift! I don’t think my husband would want a book full of naked pictures of me. Maybe if the pictures were taken before having 5 kids. I am not THAT talented at editing ;).

  23. Here I am, an innocent unassuming guy, paying your blog a visit, and I’m welcomed with that first picture. I was unprepared for the provocative yet G-rated image. All kidding aside, it’s an awesome gift. He’s a lucky guy I’m sure.

Happy Anniversary! And no, I never took boudoir pics of myself. LOL At least I never heard of pics of guys called that.

  24. My husband is great about sticking to the anniversary gifts. I’m a little bummed thinking about it because now I can’t remember what each gift was. Ever since I had my daughter, my memory has been shot.
Love the scrapbook idea!! That’s awesome. Totally empowering I bet!

  25. Great present idea! But no I will not be giving one to Iven – I’m wound way too tight and have too many body issues to be prepared to bare all in front of the camera. I even hate having my photo taken when I’m fully dressed. No judgement – just neuroses.

And Colins present was just as great.

  26. That’s a fantastic idea for a gift Ali! Great job :)
I am super jealous about the Coldplay tickets… They are headed here soon too but sadly no Chris Martin for me *sniff*
Congratulations to you and Colin on a super First Anniversary

  27. That’s an amazing present idea that I will NOT be showing Allan or I’ll never hear the end of it!

We do something different every year as far as gifts go but we tend to buck tradition so we don’t stick to the normal stuff.

The single rose is really sweet! Hope you guys have many more happy years together!

  28. Sorry I’m late on this, but Happy Anniversary!! Looks like a special celebration- your creativity, the meaningful rose, yummy Thai… congrats!

  29. Happy Anniversary!!!!! That present freaking ROCKS. My husband would be BEYOND ecstatic if I did that and maybe i should someday! We totally do this with the gifts, it’s funny. :-) For cotton I got my husband pillow cases that had our last name on them from some personalization shop online. This year my husband has it SOO freaking easy – 6 is CANDY!!!
