Changing it up! New food, new activities, new body!

Ah, the sigh of relief.

Here I was so worried I was losing my love of baking, eating and running and all the while it was all just part of my transion and journey through becoming fit :) Now I’m eating better, cooking more and doing intense workouts that I love just as much as most of my runs!

Just goes to show you in life change is something to embrace and sometimes when we think we’re failing we’re actually just following our path and jumping into the next phase of LIVING the life we were born to :)

Logan and I went to the rec centre to swim yesterday and I finally bought a season family pass! YES! I AM going to try swimming as a form of exercise. I have speedwork on today’s workout agenda but I think next week I will begin to go to the adult length swim sessions :) I’m excited.

*yep, that is a Dora bandaid, or “bandi” as Logan calls them.

As I mentioned on my facebook page yesterday – why is it that I feel more self conscious in a one piece bathing suit?? I’d almost prefer to have my buddha belly gut hanging out then have a flat chest and high displayed hips and thighs! YOWZA!

anyone else’s hair go crazy after being in the water??? or is it just mine?

thankfully the length tames those waves. If I cut it shorter people tend to refer to me as a lion whenever I let my hair dry naturally :P

I made Oh She Glows avocado chocolate pudding yesterday after Helen mentioned it in the comments on my last post and I LOVED IT! it was literally amazing :) why have I been eating so unhealthy when I really don’t need to?? it just blew my mind!!! I highly recommend trying it.

Logan never complained either. The only thing I did differently is that I added some plain greek yogurt and a half of a banana (oh and I used 70% dark chocolate instead of chocolate chips….really I should just post the whole recipe). I guess I did change it a lot! So I’ll post the full thing tonight!

Colin refused to try it :( I didn’t even tell him what was in it but now you can be sure he won’t ;) We both felt like he was lacking on the blog though – so here he is modeling his “healthy” dinner…

..don’t quit your day job Colin. Pillsbury isn’t about to give you a food modeling career…though you do make those pizza pops look good :)

I also made two different healthier oatmeals! one for me and one for Logan! This new eating has inspired me to cook/bake again! I’m just so excited, as mentioned above, because I completely thought I had lost my love of making food! :D

And….made some healthy “ice cream” too! YUM!!!!

I’ll post this recipe with the pudding :) both are easy to make and delicious!

Questions:

1. bikini or one piece?? why?

bikini. Although for whatever reason when I’m at a public pool I always wear a one piece, for one I’m with Logan and two I feel weird wearing a bikini inside – just doesn’t make sense to me. Bikini’s are for tans!!!

2. does your significant other/family eat healthy? or are they like mine :)

3. avocados – YAY or NAY???

YAY!!!! I love them. On toast, as a dip, guacamole, in pudding, on top of grilled chicken breast <—- so good!

4. do you go through waves of inspiration??

remember how I was all about my home over the last month? – I’ve found that I have to stop judging myself and ride the wave that is my current interests ;) i end up getting a lot more accomplished when I allow myself to fall completely into something :)

5. what does your hair look like naturally??

a wavy mess!

  1. OMG. I love love love that picture of Logan at the pool. It makes me smile to look at it. :)

I’ll have to start calling you ‘Pipes’ now instead of Ali. Looking good. Your food looks good. I’m a lazy cook, I could never be bothered to make delicious stuff like that. My poor family. ;)

I’m a tankini girl. My belly is nasty, a tankini hides it the best. I like avacados and my hair is weird. It’s straight and wavy at the same time. It’s also thin but I have a ton of it. Don’t even ask me what it’s natural colour is because I have no idea. It could be grey now for all I know! LOL

    • Tankini! oh yeah! I need one of those. I wear a cougaresq leopard print bikini :P people laugh…I think I look amazing! lol

my belly looks ok ….until I need to bend over to grab something Logan’s dropped, or do a plank and the only thing sucked up is my belly button!!!!! lol

  2. Yay!! You started swimming! One piece swimsuits, for swimming, are designed to stay put and not impede your swimming (with straps falling off, body parts popping out…you get the idea). My swimsuit does less than nothing for my figure but it gets the job done, until the chlorine wears it out. There are 2 piece swim suits specifically designed for swimming, from Tyr and Speedo.

I prefer a one piece for the pool, but if I want a tan, I’ll take a 2 piece :)

    • you aren’t lying! I had a hard time getting myself out of it for a bathroom break – next time I’m just going to pee in the pool :P lol

      j/k …..maybe

  3. Honestly, I feel weird in a 1 peice too. I dont think I’ve owned one since I was 11! Ha!

Excited for the recipes! I read about a chickpea chocolate cake I really want to try making, and not tell the family so I get their honest opinion!

Your arms are coming along nice! :)

    • Pammie! that’s a good point! maybe age has something to do with it – I felt like a boy ;) and thanks for the compliment. I’m just really excited to have upperbody power!!!!

  4. You look great in the swimsuit…but I completely understand what you are talking about I got one thinking I’d feel better hiding my belly…felt so mich worse ha
That ice cream looks delicious! I can’t wait for that recipe! I wish I liked avocados I keep trying them in hopes of forcing myself because they are so healthy for you…but I but have not gotten there yet ha

    • Jentry – you couldn’t even tell there was an avocado in there!!!! so if you can get someone to secretly make the pudding for you and then eat it – you’d never even notice. :) and YES! so glad you feel the same way as me in a bathing suit. I thought I’d feel better too….but nope ;P

the “ice cream” was so easy. I’ll post it tonight! the longest part is waiting for it to freeze!

  5. 1. Bikini – I have a big hips and butt, but small waist – it’s my one “good” part so I figure I might as well show it.
    2. For the most part, we both eat healthy.
    3. Avacodos – yum!
    4. Yes, I currently need a new one.
    5. My hair in naturally curly, but actually does better in the summer if I let it air dry. If I blow dry it, it is enormous!

  6. I ALSO feel so weird in a one piece! Oh man, I feel like it emphasizes my oversized thighs and butt, and flattens out my already non-existent boobs. Not a great look, hah.

You are doing SO AWESOME with the clean eats, I am so proud of you!!!

  7. Awesome that you are starting to swim, I think swimming also helps me with my running and focusing on my breathing. I know it sounds weird, but I really think it helps! I love swimming and I am about to eclipse 100,000 yards swam this year!

    • Thanks James! I just went for a leisure swim yesterday but I hope to get my lengths on soon! At least I’m further into it than I was back in March – just talking about it! Now it’s happening! and 100, 000 YARDS!!!! that’s crazy :D congrats xo

  8. Hate one piece bathing suits on me. I only wear bikinis. I would love to find a one piece that works for me though. My husband eats junk too. Love avocados! Many waves of inspiration. Hair is wavy/frizzy mess if I don’t do something with it. That’s where the ponytail comes in handy:)

  9. I have a long body and find it hard to find a one piece that doesn’t wedgie me and look really scary. I go for the tankini look. You do need to post your avocado chocolate pudding recipe. I have been on an avocado kick lately. Strangely I am craving them!

  10. I actually started swimming a few weeks ago and LOVE it. I swam competitively growing up but stopped once I got to college. It’s a great upper body workout!
    Love avocados!
I also have nightmare wavy hair. I call it my white trash wave. :)

    • Patty you are going to need to teach me how ……if I can ever get to cali we are meeting up for sure :D and HAHAHA WT wavy!!!! I love it – that’s like mine

      • If you ever come hear I would teach you. I actually taught swim lesson and was a swim coach for awhile so I could help you improve your technique. I don’t suck at everything, just running :)

  11. Yay for having your love of running and cooking back :-) I’m impressed at the healthy food too, the avocado chocolate pudding looks amazing, as does the healthy ice cream!

Your swimming plans sound fun! I’m an okay swimmer but I struggle with the proper breathing whilst swimming front crawl… I agree with you on the bikini/swim suit thing, the full suits are much less flattering! Having said that you look pretty damn good in yours ;-)

Logan is such a cutie, love his bandaid! Colin’s attitude to your healthy food makes me laugh! Tom actually eats ever cleaner than I do on the whole so I’m lucky for that – he motivates me haha

  12. Bikini or one piece? Hey I’m nearly 50 so of course I choose the bikini. I had to make some mock up bikinis for an Australian designer a few years back and one of them I liked so much I kept it for myself. I may be nearly 50 but while my body hasn’t totally gone south on me I’ll be wearing that bikini.

  13. Wow, I can’t even remember the last time I wore a 1 piece!!! you look fantastic in yours btw!!

My hubby and I definitely eats healthy just like me. It’s awesome because we keep eachother on track when it comes to food and working out.

Avocados are a definite yum! Although I have yet to try the pudding recipe! Maybe this weekend I’ll give it a shot.. hmmm i wonder if I could make an avocado fudgsicle?

Always going through waves of inspiration.. and I’m in a total slump right now – hence the lack of posts on my blog lately.. I need some sort of pick me up, so maybe my upcoming holidays will help!

My hair is straight as a board.. all the time. I can try to curl it and add a ton of product, but it never lasts. it’s just destined to be straight forever. ;)

  14. BIKINI AND AVOCADOS… at the same time. I just got caught up on your life from this week. This week was a total cluster for me and I’ve been MIA. You look great!! I need to eat more healthy too – but it is hard when the bf is trying to gain weight – what an @$$ he is.

  15. Logan is going to be the healthiest kid ever!
Double YAY for avocados! One of my very favorite foods. I will eat them on anything. :) That pudding looks amazing! Definitely want to try that one!
My hair turns to straw after a swim. :P

Add some awesome...
