We went swimming again last night! Colin and Logan came along. I tried to do some lengths of front crawl and it was an epic fail
I’ll have to work on getting better.
What was awesome is that our rec centre has a huge water slide in it! Colin and I went down it. Sorry Logan, gotta wait till you’re 4ft high ….fortunately for us adults we are already surpassed the height requirements. WHHEEEEEE!
I don’t have a waterproof camera. I should really get one…so to prove how much fun I have I’ll show you what my hair looked like upon waking up
<— because that’s a adequate substitute for an almost 30 year old on a water slide right?!

*I’m totally going out like this today – people will envy this volume – ENVY IT!
Logan didn’t enjoy me taking hair photos as soon as he woke me up and collapsed in protest….

Swimming always tuckers me out. I had already done some serious 800′s earlier. I was WAY faster than I thought I was going to be.

I rocked those 800′s – I can’t tell you my exact paces as I only have a nike+ but I measured my loop on google maps and google earth and then calibrated my nike+ around it to 800 meters. Anyway, nike+ only displays your current pace on the screen as you’re running – I was running too fast to look at it
my average pace for the whole workout was 10:30 though and that included walking warm up/cool down and 400 meter jogs with Rex

*post workout hugs are motivating. FACT.
As mentioned above I used my own “track” so I could leave Rex on the lawn with my water bottle for my 800 fast laps and pick him up for the 400 jogs. He ended up running a couple of the 800′s with me just because of where they stopped.

Overall this workout was solid – the only issue I had was….and this is going to be a TMI story – I peed my pants!
Yep sure did. I had to come racing back into the house mid speedwork to change my shorts! On one of my fastest laps sans Rex, I was squeezing and squeezing but this mom just couldn’t hold it. Kegels you and I have a date today

I guess there’s a first for every thing
*Oh and Logan pees his pants all the time. We’re currently in a “I want to wear diapers” rebelious stage. But today I bribed him with a new toy and surprise, surprise we’ve had a few pees and even a poo on the potty!

Questions:
1. what is your least favourite swim stroke?
FRONT CRAWL! I’d rather do breast stroke or back stroke forever. I hate having my face in the water. lol
2. ever do speedwork off the track, off the treadmill??
It was super fun – I think I’ll try this again!
3. be honest (so I don’t feel as embarrassed) have you ever peed during a run!?

Ha, the only swim stroke I am proficient at is the doggie paddle and I don’t think that one counts! I
I live in a rural area and our blocks are in 1 mile increments so I use the telephone poles for speedwork, sprint 4, walk 2.. or what ever I feel like that day, I also have a few hills that I will sprint up.
I have peed my pants while running… I have also peed my pants sitting on the couch while I sneezed. Thanks to my 3 kids I don’t think any amount of kegels will help that!
HAHA Oh Tennille
I’m so glad it’s not just me! Colin was like “why are you back already” I said “LOOK AT ME! I peed my pants!” lol he couldn’t believe it. Kids WILL do that to you. and speedwork seems like so much more fun when you can go places. I’m going to measure the distance btwn our poles
great idea!!!
DUDE! Ssly! You’ve had a kid, peeing your pants is totally kosher.
I am with you on the swimming. I suck at the breathing part of front crawl.
Hmm, I run tempo a lot on the streets, but never any kind of 400 or 800s. I LOVE the track. LOVE. I have to get back there and soon.
I’ve peed a bit during a run, but never so that I had to change! I have squatted behind green boxes or in bushes to take care of business mid-LSD though. This is why I love shorts with built in underwear.
I keep trying to bribe Fergus with chocolate for the potty but all he does is sit on it for a while, get off and go, “Shoc-shlite?” then crap his pull up. Sigh. He’ll go for my mum no problem though. She gives out gummy bears – maybe I need to invest!
hahaha!!!! I loved this comment – Logan goes back and forth between loving going to the potty to hating it…..it may have something to do with the fact that I screamed at him when he pissed all over me in anger
Once he realized he could use it against me it was all over
Nice hair! While I havrnt swum in YEARS my most hated was the breast stroke. I rocked at free & back and was really damn good at fly, but breast sucked for me. With that being said I always placed in the I.M.
If I do fartleks I run on the street otherwise its RBHS track or TM for my speedwork.
I almost crapped myself the other morning (talk about a photo finish!) but I’ve yet to pee myself. I have however had to hover in the bushes for pees on long runs in the past.
LMAO at nicoles potty story with Fergus. TFF!
I love the breast stroke
having to poo during a run is the WORST!!!! I’ve only had a few runs like that. I just called it quits.
Least favorite swim stroke.. hmm anything other than doggy paddle seems pretty hard to me! What a perfect track for 800s and right outside your house, that is pretty handy!
I have coughed a lot during a run before and had pee issues. I think that has to do with having had kids.
lol ya my “track” is pretty sweet. our streets are bot busy at all so I can run right down the middle too
…always safe with an ipod ;P lol
ya this was my first run pee….but I have had the odd sneeze, laugh or cough pee issue too!
I am not a swimmer, so they are all not my favorite strokes:) Unfortunately for me, I am doing my first tri in August, so I better learn to like them! I really want to go to a track for speedwork, sounds fun:) I always do mine on a treadmill. No pee for me, but I know it’s pretty common after having kids. Love dog hugs too:)
LOL I love that you’re doing a tri but don’t swim. I’ll be coming to you for motivation as I have NO clue what I’m doing. The only reason I (half) know how to do all the strokes is due to owning a pool and my parents forcing me to take swimming lessons till I was 13!
I thought for sure you were going to say you pee’ed in the pool. I had a reader who pee’ed during a half marathon bc it was downpouring and she figured – no big deal. You gotta let it go if you need to
we.. Meghan, what the aquatic members of the rec centre don’t know, won’t hurt them ;P
You know what it was raining out but not enough that the neighbours wouldn’t know what happened. But I did contemplate not stopping for a sec
…just for a sec though. I’m just realizing I’m disgusting
Love the volume!! I have to admit I am glad you talked about the peeing incident. NO really, I did this in a group exercise class. Not really peed bad but bladder leaks during some of the routines, luckily the clothing I had on didn’t show that I had wet my pants!!!
Oh Helen, I feel for you. That would suck being at a group fitness class. Thankfully, in most cases – all women go through that kind of thing….and a lot of other gross and embarrassing things too
Oh man, Ali-you crack me up!! Nice job on the 800s-your goal for next time should be no potty breaks + dry shorts. I mean, you have to set an example for L!
HAHHAHA this comment was amazing on so many levels
I love breaststroke but it was always my slowest stroke – I hate backstroke and it was always my fastest. When I’m in shape I love fly!
I have in fact peed my shorts on more than one occasion (and I haven’t even had kids!). I’m not ashamed, I’ll admit it. Sometimes you just can’t help it!
I am terrible at every stroke!! Swimming is so hard for me! But I plan. On working on it more in the winter.
Running and jumping jacks always makes me run right to the bathroom!!!
I personally think your hair looks super sexy. Hot mama!
I’m definitely a freestyle (front crawl) girl. I don’t really know any other stroke.
I have to admit I have never peed myself. I’ve had to pee badly and stopped somewhere to drop my pants and go, but never made it to the point I did it in my pants. Doesn’t sound like much fun
Nice work on your speed work! I’ve had to do it off track and treadmill too, as the closest track here is not open to the public… boo. I’m starting to run with a group who goes there once/week starting in the fall.
Great potty progress, too. We’re in a similar rebellious stage, although it’s the “i don’t want to sit on the potty” one. I’m backing off and trying not to be too pushy.
Yep! I sure did pee myself – it was during my marathon. It was pouring, I was soaked. My shoe came untied and while I kneeled there tying it – I thought “what the hell” and totally went for it. No one had a clue!!!! But I completely blabbed about it.
You should take up triathlons so you can go in your wetsuit – much easier
Being a canoeist as a teenager and sailing/windsurfing there were a lot of opportunities to “keep warm”
Have had to take a couple of off scheduled poops whilst running (and hiking) before – I now avoid chipotle before doing any hiking and take tp with me just in case. Its harder when running as where do you keep the tp?
From someone who has the limpest, most life-less, flat, fine hair in the history of the universe (and I exaggerate not) – I totally envy your volume. Bitch! (sorry, that came out before I could stop it)
And the incontinence? Hey welcome to my world. Don’t ever run with a full bladder. Know where the toilets are on your route. And if you ever have to do speed work there’s some nifty little pads that hide a multitude of sins. Yep, Kegels are good too.
LFSS. Breast stroke. Which is why I will never go to a Master’s swim club. It’s not good for swim coaches or anyone else for that matter, to laugh that hard. Plus other people need to use that lane.
No speedwork, except for as noted below.
Never peed myself during a run. Have had a few close calls of the solid variety and I’m happy there are washrooms in that park, and I went that way. Twice. Easier for a guy to find a bush to pee during the run. Bike is a different story.
Cool that you have a “built in” track.
Peed on a run? All the time. But I duck into cornfields (aka cornfield emergencies) or when on trails I slip behind a tree. I just credit it to working really hard.
Glad you were close to home.
My least favorite stroke is butterfly. My sister forced me to swim two laps last weekend and I almost died! Yeah, I’m out of shape.
My least favorite swim stroke is probably the butterfly. That ones tough!
I love the idea of making up your own track!
I love your honesty! I never peed my pants, but I’m sure its bound to happen someday haha. Usually I’m pretty good about making bathroom stops as needed.
My speedwork is usually done on the treadmill so I can keep track easily. Not as fun as outside but it works!
Love love love water slides! My mom hates them. She is so terrified of them.

I am pretty good at the breast stroke. Whenever I try the backstroke I end up zig zagging and bumping into people because I can’t see where I am going.
I usually run in the woods behind my house so I am close to a bathroom when I need it!
Im totally going to be peeing my pants after I have a kid. I mean, I go to the bathroom 23o5724958x a day already, so for SURE after a baby I will be struggling!!
HAHAHA omg I just saw this and thought of this post.

Hahaha! That’s awesome, I want one
