I’m home

I had such an amazing time away. The weather was fab! The friends were fun! the running was so cool! the food was amazing! and I could seriously build myself a little hut and live on the French River for the rest of my life.

….note to Colin: build me a hut. Thanks, Ali xo

Logan had a blast and there is really far too many stories and photos that I wouldn’t even want to bombard you with them all. So hey! let’s do a classic RWS photo roll summary! you’re welcome, I know how much you guys like those ;)

1. Drinking. Definitely the highlight of my weekend. What? were you expecting something else on this blog? sorry. This mom doesn’t party enough and so winning a tequila shooting contest is definitely something I’m bragging about.

2. Water. Frank Ocean said it best; “why see the world, when you’ve got the beach?” I feel complete contentment when I’m next to and/or in water. Logan definitely loved every second of it and one of our friends was just learning how to swim at 30, so know-it-all’s like me, love to teach people things ;)

3. Food. Right from the meal planning down to the eating this trip was the epitome of good, wholesome foods. We definitely had to fuel our bodies, with all the booze we were consuming. I made a few new things that I will definitely be sharing on the blog, quinoa butternut squash risotto being one of them :)

* what sucks is that on the way home I caved and got Wendy’s ;) lol I am beginning to notice how crappy I feel and how my face breaks out after eating junk food. <— i’ve changed so much!

4. Wildlife. I know I don’t discuss my love of nature too much on the blog but I LOVE everything about it. I love the sun and how it gives us all life, right down to the bugs. Exception: the paper wasps we spray bombed ;) oops! but seriously I like mostly everything outside. I don’t like to brag but I can identify over 200 species of plants, trees and shrubs and most native benthic invertebrates and wildlife. I’m awesome.

* I’m the loser that was yelling ”OMG a Northern Water Snake!” as opposed to “snake” He even did a turn over so I could confirm my guess by his checkerboard belly :)

5. Exercise. From 7km trail runs where I literally ran into a deer (did you know they make sounds?! I didn’t….till I heard it) to sun salutations with Kate on the dock this trip had it covered. I don’t know if swimming after a milk bag or running over rocks to find your sandals that your toddler tossed in the water are dailymile worthy, but they definitely should be.

6. Good Friends. I love Ryan and Kathryn and they are very dear to both me and Colin. Logan loves them too and it’s clear they feel the same way. They do tons for us and our family and a trip to the cottage isn’t complete without them. They brought up two new friends, Mike and Kate and the energy mix couldn’t have been better. I loved every second of our time together. New BFF’s for sho ;)

7. The Night. Stars, planets, the moon, you name it! We saw it. Mike brought up his awesome telescope and it was seriously one of the coolest experiences of my life. All I could think about when I saw the moon close up was how cool it must’ve been to walk on it. Yes, I’m not ashamed to admit that “walk on the moon” is now on my bucket list.

* Colin took this with his iphone held up to the eye piece.

8. Logan. Obviously a weekend away with friends would probably be pretty amazing if you didn’t have a 2.5 year old to run after….BUT he sure made it a lot more fun. I loved that he tossed my sandals in the river and didn’t tell me till I asked him where they were…..2 hours later. I love that he’s at an age where I can show him things in nature and he can get excited about it. I love that he likes the water and feels comfortable in the outdoors.

If I learned anything from this trip it’s that yoga needs to be in my life and I need to show Logan more of the outdoors while eating and preparing great wholesome food. It’s just what makes me happy :)

1. did you miss me??

I know it sounds weird but I missed you guys. I think it’s funny how much I think about my blog friends :)

2. yoga? – YAY or NAY?? what kind? how often?

3. have you ever looked through a telescope? what did you see??

I’ve seen saturn, jupiter, some galaxies, stars, mars, the moon. I think that’s it. I really want to see my made up constellation: triangulis.

  1. 1. I read your blog everyday among other blogs so heck ya I missed ya!

    2. YOGA YAY! but I am biased, I am a yoga teacher!! :) !
I do mostly Hatha, Vinyasa and a little bit of Bikram (Hot). Everyday (personal practice, meditation, at home or at class) and a few times a week teaching!

Let me know if you need any advice, or sequencing, etc!!!

    • YAY :) thanks Kerry! and I believe this is your first comment! so exciting :D

I do need advice – I’d like to fit yoga into my daily life too, however I don’t have money for classes – is there any particular DVD or website you’d recommend ?? :)

  2. Of course I missed you! My mornings just aren’t the same without one of your blog posts. :)
    Wow, that looks soo fun!
Yoga is yay! I love it and I am trying to convince my mom to take a class with me.
I think that we have a small, old telescope. It is boxed away in the basement but we definitely need to get it out again!

  3. Welcome home! A morning at work isn’t the same without one of your posts. :) That pic of the moon is so great! Thanks for sharing all the photos. I’m not the most flexible or coordinated girl out there so yoga and I have a love/hate relationship. LOL

    • hahaha best comment ever ;) I’m glad I make work fun! lol and I thought it was great too! I was impressed by Colin’s ability to take a photo through an eye piece!

    • ah yes, it was a Godsend! I really needed to revive my mind and body….though who knows how well that went with the few nights of drinking we had. I’m happy to say I drank soooo much water and munched on veggies and kale chips every night ;) lol

  4. I’VE MISSED YOU!!!

YAY for Yoga! I love it. I’m actually thinking about getting a monthly membership to a yoga studio for September and taking advantage of their classes!

I use to love looking through telescopes and learning about astronomy in school. Star gazing is my favourite.

    • It’s soooo nice isn’t it?! Gourmet Runner Vanessa got me hooked on yoga vids a while back but I stopped doing them. I think maybe signing up for a class may help. I did win a Passport to Prana…..so I should use it ;)

star gazing is soooo much fun! who knew ;P and I saw the tweets while I was away! I’m super excited for our picnic!!!!!

  5. Of course we missed you! But what an awesome getaway you had!

Yes, and double Yes to yoga. If only I could find a place to practice that fits with my schedule. You, on the other hand, had the most perfect place for some yoga. You must have felt so relaxed and rejuvenated.

    • It was beautiful Sabrina!!! I am in the process of working out a new schedule for my working out, new hobbies, work and mom life :) I need more balance and I think if I can figure everything out then yoga will be able to make it into my daily life too!

  6. What a great picture of the moon and what a great time for you all!

I am probably going to try to get into at home yoga. I am gymless and need something to help me get back into shape. Oh and Im printing all of your plank challenges

    Im glad you are back!!

    • I just removed my monthly challenge page but I’m positive all the fitness calendars are on pinterest! :)

I am a gymless person too…..so I love body weight workouts. I think yoga may prove to be awesome.

I’m glad to be back too! Thanks Heather xo

  7. Definitely missed you! Your posts always make my smile and help to break up my crappy mornings at the office. ;)

Yoga – I don’t think I could really give an honest yay or nay as I haven’t really done it enough to lend an opinion. I do have Jillian’s Yoga Meltdown dvd and really enjoy it!

I’ve always wanted to look into a telescope, but can’t say that I ever have… I do love star-gazing though. I think that’s one of the things I miss most about my childhood home.. we lived in the country so we could star-gaze every single nights. Unfortunately it’s not so easy at home now thanks to all the street lights and such.

    • I’m convinced I could be a better blog commenter if I had an office job ;P lol

I’ve never tried Jillian’s yoga but I’ve heard it’s intense!!!!

  8. I missed you! It looks like you had an amazing time and so did Logan! Love the photos :)

I don’t do yoga but I should probably try it sometime.

I took Astronomy in high school and I’m pretty sure we had to look through a telescope once, if not we definitely did in elementary school and I saw some stars haha. Not really sure which ones!

  9. So glad you had such a great time and of course we missed you:) I always miss my blog friends when I am on vacay and don’t read the blogs as much. That telescope pic is awesome! Hot yoga for me. Can’t relax my mind enough for regular.

  10. Sounds and looks like you had an amazing time! I am so jealous, it looks beautiful out there! Alcohol is usually the highlight of my trips as well ;) Glad you enjoyed your time away!

    • Well I won’t lie – I was kind of scared since I was catching frogs and just putting my hands right into the water …..only to stir up that guy! lol but I don’t mind snakes.

  11. I am so so glad that you had such a fantastic break! You’re such a hardworking mum that you definitely 100% deserved it :-)

You did some lovely things and I’m really impressed that you have been running, doing yoga and eating well whilst on holiday! You seem to be changing and developing your views on things and I love it :-) I’ve definitely been missing your lovely positive and chirpy posts!

I’ve not looked through a proper telescope since I was little but Tom’s dad is an astronomer so I’m keeping my fingers that one day I’ll get invited to visit his work!

  12. Yay for fun vacations! I am so NOT with you on loving all things nature. I love being outdoors, but I would have been the one yelling SNAKE! whilst running away… and most likely crying.
I really enjoy yoga and do not do it enough.

    • lol :) we did spray bomb the wasps ;P so I’m not totally nice. I also stabbed a big spider to death…..using scissors. lol

Snakes are pretty freaky but they’re mostly scared more of us than anything else ;)

  13. Yoga on the deck overlooking a big lake looks amazingly peaceful. I think Iven should build me a lake in the backyard and a deck so I can do yoga there. It’d be much more peaceful than in the loungeroom with the tv blaring and being stepped on by dogs.

  14. Ooh loving the new blog design- seriously zen looking. I like Bikram but not really the other types. I find it hard to go inside my own head! Which likely means I need more yoga…

You look so good in a bikini lady- whit woo!

  15. Catching up on you now!!!!!! So happy you were able to relax and have a good time with your friends and family. It looked like absolute perfection. I did miss you and all of your funny comments :) I’m off and on when it comes to yoga. I definitely like hot yoga best though. Loving the new blog design too, Ali! Hope you have a great day!
