Running you have been replaced…..

Running:

this isn’t running but it’s exercise and that’s good enough in my books….

last night I finally sucked it up (those who follow me on instagram already know this) and went to the adult swim…instead of my usual pretending to swim when it’s really a public swim and then logging it as a workout. I actually went and did some lengths :) I’m becoming hardcore. It’s awesome!

*FYI – you guys are lucky I post such manly looking photos – now you know why my hair is LONG! I need to “hide” behind it ;)  

I actually LOVED IT! I was horrible. I mean I checked out some other bloggers who swim workouts on DM and their paces are in the 20′s while mine are in the high 80′s!! I don’t even know how to decode a swim pace but I can tell you this. My lengths were super shark fast – I just had 5 mins breathing breaks in between each one ;)

Swimming is hard. FACT. All you swimmers out there need to give yourselves a pat on the back, or better yet email me next time you swim and I’ll send you a pat myself ;)

However, I had so much fun! I swam for the first half hour and then I asked the life guard for a floated belt and she had one :D <— sweet beams of happiness washed over my face and I think she was scared.

I finished the hour with some pool running. It was SWEEET! needless to say, I’ll be going back :) Make Wednesday my official swim night!

*ps: I still love running, but pool running and exercise with NO pain is amazing and I think everyone should try it :) I’ll most likely post more about this tomorrow!

Logan has been having severe diarrhea for the past 4 days! I know, you really wanted to know that didn’t you? well now you can rest easy knowing your day is complete – you’re welcome :)

* what? you were expecting poo pics? disgusting! I finally got Lo to eat broccoli, who knew you had to make them the smallest possible trees ever for this to happen! 

The poor little guy had to be put back in pull ups because a simple fart was proving to be disaterous. His bum is RAW from all the wiping that I finally started just hosing him off in the shower. We’ve been giving him oatmeal and epsom salt baths multiple times and day and he loves getting diaper rash cream put on at 2 1/2 years old ;) <— lies. he hates it

*he sure does love water though – in the form of pools and/or splash pads. 

He seems much better today. I’ve been trying to figure out what has caused it, as he doesn’t have a fever and there’s no sickness. I’ve been trying to feed him lots of bananas, apple sauce and toast but he can only be persuaded so much.

I hope he gets better soon :( xo poor guy <— edit: I wrote this last night and this morning he is loads better :D YAY! because I know you guys care ;)

I’m looking for something healthy to make for dinner tonight but that Colin and Logan will eat – which means it’s got to be GOOD tasting healthy with no weird hard to pronounce vegetables in it – any ideas???

* this salad tasted amazing: lentils, WW pasta, red kidney beans, chickpeas, veggies of all kinds & cottage cheese with olive oil and greek seasoning (no salt added). <— Colin would not eat it :(  

Colin really wants to tackle a homemade lasagna, as believe it or not we’ve never done one….so maybe I’ll do that!!!

I run today – speedwork. However I’m not in the speedwork mood and have decided to change it up and do some hill repeats tonight on this monster hill near my house. I have no idea how many repeats I’ll end up doing but I’m going to run there and run back. It’s about 1.5 miles out = perfect!

  1. Love swimming and so glad you liked the master’s practice! It’s a great workout, no question, and I think a nice complement to running. Do I see a triathlon in the future?

    Peppermint helps calm an upset stomach–I use peppermint oil tablets. Not sure with a little guy though; maybe ask your doc?

    • well Lo and behold ;) there was a normal poo this morning! YAY :) Now I just have to monitor what he’s eating and hopefully it’ll be gone :)

      peppermint – I never knew! I’m totally trying this on myself next time I’m infected.

      and I wouldn’t call what I did a master anything ;) I chose the “stop & go” lane where it’s ok to take breathers. The people in the continuous lane looked so hardcore.

    Great job on the swimming! Our gym is opening an indoor pool next year and I can’t wait to try it out, but I am going to be sllloooowwww.

    Poor Logan – hope he feels better. Maybe just pedialyte or gatorade so he doesn’t dehydrate?

    • That’ll be awesome Heather. If your pool is like the one I go to then they should have all different types of lanes. No one seemed to care about me being slow and everyone was encouraging….even the hardcores ;)

      I grabbed some pedialyte and he seems much better!!!

    • Vanessa! I most definitely have :) ….but neither Logan or Colin would try it :( alas….my life. I should start specializing in single portion meals because that’s what it’s been like as of late.

  3. Poor Logan! Try plain Cheerios dry (no milk) and Blueberries for that diarrhea. I give that to my son and it does the trick. Great job on your swimming! I have heard that swimming is hard even though it appears to be easy!

    • Nice cheerios! good call. Swimming is sooooo hard. I think it’s because learning how to breath properly is the issue. I felt like I could never get enough air.

  4. I loveee swimming and have talked about pool running a million times on my blog since I spent like a whole year injured before the surgery! It is a very good workout.
    Would your boys eat turkey burgers?? That’s become a huge hit in our house-Tom loves meat but I try to cut back on saturated fat so we’ve compromised!

    • Pool running is so much fun!!!!! I felt so badass ;P lol and yes they’d totally eat turkey burgers! I can’t wait to try those over the weekend! good idea!

  5. Bananas and rice are the way to go for diarrhea, if you can get him to eat them!

    I am a TERRIBLE swimmer, but it’s the only workout I can do right now without exacerbating my injury! My problem is breathing. I’m terrible and breathing while I swim. It makes me so.so.so. sad.

    I do shower naked at the gym, but my gym has private showers…from your question, I’m wondering if yours has communal showers. I would be too shy to do that!!!!

    • Yes! I made him a rice, banana apple sauce mix that he refused to eat yesterday but today I told him it was yogurt and down it went ;P lol

      communal showers. I don’t attend a gym. I live beside a rec centre so we got a family swim pass. It’s proven to be great! it was only $130 for the year TOTAL! and all 3 of us can go to any swims at any rec centre in the city :)

  6. Poor kid! I am so sorry about that. I would have some sort of dinner with rice in it, always soothes the stomach. Swimming is hard, it is so difficult for me to get motivated to swim because it kicks my butt everytime.

  8. Very impressed with your swimming:) Glad your little guy is feeling better and thanks for not posting poo pics:) I have made lasagna before and I actually planned to make it tonight, weird? We are on the same wavelength. It’s my mom’s recipe, really simple and it’s delish. I hope to run today, but I am being lazy right now and reading blogs.

  9. ive realized as i’ve gotten older that I cant swim for the life of me :( I need to take some lessons or something!

    I ran 5 miles easy today, it was awesome! very nervous about my 16 miler this weekend though :(

    I’ve made just regular lasagna before but i’ve ALSO made the vegetable lasagna recipe on katheats blog and it came out amazing, and its healthy! Even my friend who doesnt like healthy food ended up eating some and liking it :) check it out!

  10. I only shower at home. Too many germs in those public showers. :/
    My sister is a vegetarian so she makes veggie lasagna sometimes. GROSS! I love meat lasagna thought! But have never made it.
    I have not swam in a long time. I used to be really good…not so much anymore!

  11. I’ve been swimming since I was 6 (so 19 years) and I’ve *never* showered naked at the pool unless I have privacy. It was a big debate in college because the guy swimmers all showered (and sang, and horsed around) naked together after practice and the girls were strictly suits on. The guys all thought WE were weird but I’m pretty sure it’s the opposite!!

  12. I love swimming and try to hit the pool at least once a week. It is right across from my condo, yet so hard to get to! It’s funny, I swear I sweat when I swim….

    I shower naked anywhere, modesty is not one of my strong suits.

    Headed out for a run today, have three races coming up quick – Disney 5k, Mud Run and Triatholon.

  13. Lasagne is my go-to recipe for taking to friends/family.

    Just in case, I’ve got a cheater recipe for you….

    I use spaghetti sauce instead of tomato sauce and spices

    little sauce on bottom of 9×13 pan
    layer noddles
    Mozzarella cheese
    cottage cheese or ricotta
    Parmesan cheese
    (little garlic salt)
    .5 pound ground meat (beef is best at my house)
    layer of noodles
    enough sauce to “frost” noddles
    repeat
    add motzerella cheese on top
    350 for 30ish minutes….until cheese on top is melted and lasagne is hot clear through

  15. Of course I shower naked at the uni locker room after speed. After all it’s only girls who are there – except that one time when one of the Broncos (football team) decided that he couldn’t walk the few extra steps to the men’s OR couldn’t decipher that the sign with the lady wearing a dress meant it was for ladies. Luckily I wasn’t wearing my glasses so I couldn’t see the horrified look on his face when he walked in on an old naked lady :)

    • LOL ;) I’d shower naked anywhere too! who cares. My great grandmother would always say “if you see something you haven’t seen before you can put me in the circus” and my mom would always tell us that as children ;)

      I just think the body is just that, a body. it’s not us so who cares ;) just the vessel …hehe

  18. Our new apartment has a pool which I love and have been practicing. Love what it does for my arms and shoulders. Good for you!

    Logan.. sorry to hear he is ailing… could it be that he should see a doctor and have a specimen analyzed for bacteria or parasite or something?

    I used to make lasagna all the time.. my fave has lots of cottage cheese and lean ground beef in the layers of sauce and noodles. Garlicky too, and mozzarella. It freezes well. Make lots!

    I have showered at the pool and gym, but I like a private stall… no gang showers for me. If that is the only option, I am keeping my bathing suit on.

    I’ve made crockpot lasagna. Sounds crazy I know, it wasn’t super pretty, but it was tasty!

  21. I am told swimming is the best workout out there but man I am with you, it’s hard! I haven’t really swam laps before and I don’t even know how many I would make it through before collapsing lol
    I definitely want to try it at some point, good for you for getting out there!
