Isn’t that weird?? I’ve been running for over a year now and other than getting up early for races and for my Sunday morning runs (which aren’t even until 8am) I’ve always run during the day or at night.
As you all know we went down to one car and unfortunately Colin completely forgot to pay a speeding ticket and we received a notice in the mail that his license was suspended. <— don’t worry, it’s not too serious. We were freaking out but after paying the ticket and going to the MTO he just has to wait for the paperwork to go through on Friday and he can drive again.
Just give Colin wings and he will be happy and forget all his problems

Anyway, so since Colin isn’t driving he carpooled today and therefore that meant he wouldn’t be leaving the house at 5:30am! so I could get up at 5:30am and run!!!!
I left my clothes and everything out the night before….

The waking up part was a bit harder than I thought….

However, overall – I LOVED IT! I love that I’m sitting here typing at 7am, eating shredded wheat and peaches, already 3miles behind me and a super awesome yoga session! Now anything I do today is just an added bonus.

I feel like I’m ready to take on the day. I’m normally tired and it takes Logan coming in to wake me up. I find it funny that now I’m eagerly waiting for his morning arrival instead of dreading it
I am hoping that Colin will use this car-less 3 days as inspiration because I’ve been trying to convince him that he doesn’t need to go into work that early. I think if he carpooled it would be cheaper for us and that he wouldn’t have to work as many hours. I would LOVE to be able to workout before Logan wakes up every morning.
The best thing is – is that now I know when Logan wakes up I can set him up with his milk and a banana (he loves them) and one of his favourite shows and meditate too! I feel GREAT!!!!!!!!

Questions:
1. do you workout in the morning?? if so what time do you have to wake up??
2. what time do you normally go to bed at night??
I used to go to bed at 11pm or midnight! especially on nights I work, however now I’d like to be in bed at 10pm …10:30 at the latest.
3. how many cars are in your household?? do you ever carpool or use other means of transportation while commuting??
We just went down to one car, as Colin got rear ended on the highway and his car was a right off….hence why we forgot about the ticket.
I’m meditating and Logan is eating honey toast and a banana with milk
HAVE A GREAT DAY GUYS! xo
Good for you getting up early! I always run in the morning. It’s way easier for me to fit it in that way AND my brain can’t come up with any excuses not to run. LOL I’ll get up anywhere from 5-630am depending on the day and length of my run. My bedtime depends on the day of the week too. If I work it’s anywhere from midnight – 2am, other nights I’m under the covers by 10pm. We have 2 cars, and with my oldest son having his license now, most days 2 is not enough.
Have a good day!
I love to get my run/workout in in the morning. It makes me feel so much better throughout the day! I really notice now that when I don’t I feel more tired and my workouts feel harder when I do them mid day or evening.
Congratulations on your early run!
I always run in the morning. I wake up at 6 AM, it’s not easy, but I feel great after running and for the rest of the day.
I don’t have a car, I live in a big city where cars are not really necessary. I take the subway to work.
Hope you can work things out so you can do early runs more often
Funny enough I worked out a 6am 5 days a week all winter long!! But, once I went on my spring vacation and ammended my workout schedule, I stopped getting up early. I think it worked so well for me in the winter because at that time of year, I find myself more tired after work – probably due to the fact that it’s dark when I leave the office. But during the spring/summer, I’m usually still raring to go once work is over, so it’s no big deal for me to workout when I get home.
No matter what time of year, I’m usually out by 10pm. Even though I haven’t been working out in the am, our alarm still goes off at 5:45 since my hubby commutes into Toronto every day.
We each have our own car making that 2 in our household. We’d carpool if we could, but it’s just not feasable for us. Even though the GO station is literally just across the 401 from my work, he catches the 7am train every morning and doesn’t get back in until 6:50pm… while I start work at 8am and leave at 5pm. I also make the trek up to see my horse several nights a week after work, so having our own cars is a must.
I love to workout early before kids wake up, I wake up at 4:50 am to get ready and go to my bootcamp class at the park class is a 6am but I’m 35 min from the park, if my kids wake up Daddy is there to take care of them, my hubby goes to work around 7:30 am when I get back from the park, I feel more energy during the whole day, and like you say anything else is bonus!!!
Kids bed time is at 8pm, my bed time is aroung 9 or 9:30pm.
We own two cars, my hubby use his to go to work, my car I dnt use it to much just for long trips, Adrian school is 1 mile away so we walk or uses are bikes….Have a fantastic day!!!Great idea to get your workout clothes ready a day before thank you for the tip!!
I’m a night runner myself. Love blowing off work steam on the trails!
I love running in the early morning, but I only do it for long runs and that will stop when the weather cools down. Lazy? Probably! I go to bed anywhere between 9 and 11pm and we have 4 cars and 4 drivers. I’m a nurse so my body has a hard time deciding when to be awake. Dang those people who get sick at night! Haha …I kid..I love my job!
Running only a year? Guess I should go back into your blog and read about it. That is awesome and a great blog to read!
Aww Kathee thanks so much
and I’ll save you having to read so much and direct you to this post where it summarizes my whole first year of bloggin! lol
I’m lazy too….I don;t think there’s anything wrong with not wanting to run and workout every second! I just do it enough so I don’t stop
I get up at 5am to run during the week. I need to be back around 6 to get ready for work since I am supposed to be there by 8am. I really don’t like running later in the day now that I am used to running in the early morning. It is great, you don’t really have to deal with cars and in the area where I run there are always other runners out. My only issue is now it is dark so I have to use my Knuckle Lights and put Sandy’s lit up collar on her.
I am a morning person at heart so I love those morning. You will get into the swing of it.
I’ve always been a morning person but I’ve never done the wake up and run thing. Even on weekends I will wake up at 7:30am and I won’t start running until 9am because I love having a coffee, reading some blogs, stretch, and then run.
As for going to bed I tend to fall asleep at 10:30pm. I know, I’m a party animal.
I dont know how you do it…I tried to schedule an early morning run today..hahaha I didnt even hear the alarm. I wish I had a way to beat my I-hate-mornings attitude…blast
My family has two cars, we are lucky as in we have an older car that is used by your truly to get to and from work and our Subaru is our main car. Forester…great set a of wheels!
I like being in bed around 9-930 then reading for a little while before sleep. It is a nice way to relax. Sometimes life gets in the way and I am up till 11 or 1130, never past midnight though cause I needs ma beauty sleep!
I just started early morning two weeks ago and am completely hooked! It is still hard to get up in the morning but it is SO worth it to have my run completed before any of the kids wake up.
It helps that my husband gets up very early for work so we go to bed by 10pm each night. Unfortunately, it also means all my morning runs are on the treadmill because he leaves by 5:30am and there is no way I can be done running by that time!
Love your blog!
Thanks for visiting
and I totally linked this comment up b/c you are a genius! I’m treadmill morning running from now on
Way to go getting in an early morning run! That is early, not sure if I could do it. I get up, now that school has started, at 6:15 to get the kids up and ready for school. I don’t work out until around 9is after I drop off my youngest. We have 2 cars, no carpooling for us.
We know how I feel about morning workouts, not a fan, but I will have to run in the morning a few times because of my work schedule.
We go to bed at 10pm, not super later and not super early.
We have two cars, it would be almost impossible for us to have one since our work schedules are completely different and finding someone I could carpool with would be difficult.
In order to get my miles in before work, I need to be up by 4 at the latest. We are out the door by 6:45 every morning.
I missed this morning’s run because of a late soccer match last night that just wouldn’t finish. And I woke up feeling blah because I didn’t run – partly from guilt and partly because if I don’t exercise my energy levels aren’t great in the morning. And now I read your post and my guilt’s gone to a whole new level. I WILL be hitting the road this evening.
I prefer working out in the morning as well! Sometimes it’s hard for me to wake up, especially if I don’t have to work. It’s so much better to get it done early though. The whole day just goes by so much better!
I try to get to bed early but considering it’s 12:30 right now, it’s clearly not working!
So happy you had a good day!

Fantastic-I have been running at 5.15 here in Kuwait-becuase any later and it is too hot. I don’t enjoy jumping out of bed-but fee sooo good after! love the new blog look…been a while snce I had time to pop over!
I wish I could run early and I HAVE run early, but when I do it has to be at 4:30 and not really later, because I have to be back and in the shower by 5:30. To run that early it requires a LOT of planning on my part- mostly food planning. So, if I have all my food (or most) prepped for the next day AND I go to bed on time, then it *could* be possible. When I work from home I am able to sleep in longer and I have run between 7 -8am to be home on time to start work. My colleagues don’t know or care that I’m sweaty and stinky and I’ll shower then during my “lunch break”.
I need to be in bed by 10 (so I have 35 more minutes …) just to even get a minimum 6 hours of sleep.
We have one car and the Hubs drives to work. He works 60KM from home and I work 135KM from home. I work in Amsterdam so it would just be insane to drive daily, too much road rage. I don’t mind not having an extra car. Hubs had an accident in January and we thought we would try to go without a car but it was not only inconvenient, he was depressed because of it (long story… but let’s just say it was one thing that was all “his” after he split from his ex YEARS ago). We have excellent public transport (and my company pays for my yearly ticket), and our country is extremely bike friendly as well, so it wouldn’t make a lot of sense for me to drive (especially when petrol is €4 a LITRE).
