TWO THINGS:

Hey Spatch fans I know I rarely post on the weekend but I wanted to tell you 2 things and I can’t wait till Monday…..sorry for the excitement: WARNING - these things are not exciting.

1. I found out I am in fact anemic. So my doctor obviously doesn’t know what health looks like. I am unfortunately NOT the epitome of it, like he said :(

I also have to take vitamin C because mine is low (I blame smoking <— new readers I don’t do this anymore) and apparently it helps with iron absorption.

So anyways, I am hoping this discovery will leave me with more energy and I’m just glad I wasn’t hallucinating my weakness :)

2. I dyed my hair!!! (in case you didn’t notice in the above photo) Just a semi dye to get rid of that grown out wretched blonde. I like it :)

It’s basically the same as my natural colour, with a tint more red in it so I am happy with it. It says it lasts 28 washes, which for me means 3 months ;P as I hardly ever wash my hair. Meh.

Questions:

1. do you dye your hair?? what colour?

I don’t normally but used to lots. I had some blonde highlights put in for my wedding and I just grew them out. Argh! Never again.

2. are you anemic? any tips? advice??

3. what are you doing this fine long weekend??

I’m mostly working…..which I have to head to right now! ahhhhhhhhhhh!

  1. I’ve never been diagnosed as anemic, as I’ve never mentioned it to a doctor, but I started taking iron and B12 a couple of months ago because I felt kind of run down and I thought the inner corners of my eyes seemed pale. I immediately noticed a difference. Hope you do too!

Your hair looks great!!! I’ve dyed mine since I was like 16 when I first started finding gray hairs. Premature gray runs in the family. (THANKS DAD!!!) I’ve had it sooo many colors, but now it’s very similar to your color. :)

  2. The only time I was thinking about dying my hair was because I had a beard. It was red. The rest of the hair on my head is light brown blonde sort of. However I was swimming lots at the time and the hair person convinced me that was not a good combination. Probably just as well. First it’s dying hair, then piercings, then tattoos, and after that you take up marathons and Ironmans and the other hard stuff.

Never anemic. Eat more good stuff and take fewer pills. Research is beginning to show that the forms of the stuff in pills is not as good for us as how it comes naturally in whole foods.

Crossing things off my to do list around the house. Today has been to clean out the shower and bathroom sink drains. Next task involves a pressure washer. What, TMI? Ok.

  3. I highlight my hair. Your hair looks great! We’re headed to my sisters today. We were supposed to be swimming and bbqing but it’s raining so well just hang out!

  4. I’ve never been anemic and I don’t dye my hair. But, I do think that you are darling! Also, how cute is your hubby!?! Have fun working. My hubby is working too, and we (the children and I) are just hanging out.

  5. I have dyed my hair since I was in college when I started finding more than a few gray hairs. I dye my hair pretty close to my natural color from my youth, dark brown.
I was never diagnosed as anemic but I was deferred for a blood donation due to lack of iron levels. I’ve found that eating red meat helps and other high iron foods like spinach, etc. I agree with Keith, you should try and get your iron levels up with food instead of pills. At least you have answers now. :)

  6. I’ve never dyed my hair, part of me is tempted to dye it auburn as that was my natural hair colour when I was little but part of me is scared that would ruin my hair and I do like the way it is lots of different colours now!

I’m sorry to hear you’re anemic but hopefully you’ll be able to sort this out and then you’ll have heaps more energy! I know what you mean about looking healthy when you’re not, people always tell me I look really healthy haha. I tell them it’s a mixture of a cheery disposition and clever makeup ;-)

  7. My husband was anaemic for a while. We had to eat a few more red meat meals, have a source of vitamin c at the meals (because vit c helps with the absorption of iron – I wonder if your vit c deficiency has anything to do with your iron one) and not drink tea with iron-rich meals because it interferes with the absorption.

Yes I dye my hair – I have blonde foils put through 3 or 4 times a year to help dumb me down a little. It’s great to have a sister who’s a hairdresser.

  8. I found your blog somewhere… I think Cait’s blog. Anyway, just looking for random blogs to creep on but I figured I’d comment after reading. I’m anemic, or at least I was, and I have low ferritin. It’s pretty common among distance runners actually. I take the liquid ferrous sulfate and it really helps me, with a glass of juice at night. It’s like part of my bedtime routine now. I think you can still be very healthy and be anemic, a lot of anemia is unavoidable. Even if you’re not overtraining, you can lose iron through sweat and foot strike. But, it’s possible to be very healthy and anemic, so don’t worry! The needles suck and I get blood taken every 6 months but eventually you just get used to it too.

I love dying my hair! Which reminds me I need to dye it again soon :) . Maybe this weekend since it’s a long weekend! Aside from that, I’m just running and relaxing this weekend!

    • Amy Lauren! thanks for visiting I have no idea why I never responded to this post’s comments but I really appreciate you visiting and giving me feedback. thanks! I hope we can get our energy back!

  9. Your hair looks awesome!!!! & I’m starting to jump on the not washing hair daily bandwagon. & you know what? my hair seems healthier!!! I was anemic when I was pregnant with Izzy and from time to time I feel drained…so I take the B12 and Iron and lots of vit C and I bounce back. I’m not good at taking it consistently. Perhaps I should!

  10. I am supposed to take calcium and vitamin d BC osteoporosis runs in my family.

Your hair looks great! My sister does hair for a living and every so often I will let her put low lights in to darken it up To my natural color

  11. Chicken livers – delish! Lots of iron in those. BTW – make sure you are drinking lots of water and eating lots of fiber because iron supplements can be constipating. I’m older and I’m a nurse so this sort of thing is very important information! Actually I avoid multivitamins with iron because it affects me so much and try to get iron from my diet – but it can be a struggle. I was first anemic when I was in grade school. I do better now, but I love chicken liver and there is a local farm close by that has them organic and delish.

Do you die your own hair? I’ve been going gray for about 13 years now and I’ve always gone to a hairdresser and paid 100 bucks to get it done with high lights and low lights. I can’t complain, it looks great, but it’s getting expensive and time consuming and wonder if I could do it myself.
    Hope you feel better!!

  12. Love the new hair color! I also color my hair – it’s gotten darker with each passing year so regular dye jobs take it back to the hair color of my youth. Plus, I love the pampering involved with getting my hair colored. :)
I was anemic during my first pregnancy – not fun. Glad to see you are on the mend!

  13. Your hair looks great! I have never been diagnosed anemic but I have been taking iron pills for years, my iron has always been low. I did not eat right through out high school and college.

  14. Oh no! I’m sorry you are anemic, I don’t have any advice for you but I hope you get some more energy soon.

I like the hair color! :) I do dye my hair, dark brown, but I haven’t in a little while. I think I’m going to cut my hair shortish and dye it soon though!

No long weekend for me, work starts again tomorrow!

  15. Sorry for being anemic. Moniter your period while taking the supplements. Mine got very heavy, I stopped taking the supplements and went with iron rich foods.

I always color my hair. :)

  17. Your hair looks fantastic!!! I usually die mine a few times a year and always go darker simply due to the fact that my eyebrows are black and my eyes are super dark. I actually attempted a lighter shade this spring and it just made my hair look red.. it didn’t really work with the rest of my features.
I don’t think I am anemic, but sometimes I think I might be in some form.. if I go too long without food I get a headache and start to feel weak. Not fun!
Since the long weekend has come and gone, I can’t really tell you what i’m doing, but I can say that I had a blast doing lots of relaxing! :)

  18. I am anemic too! I take Iron along with B12 and I feel it’s helped me with energy SOOO much! Sure hope it helps you!
And I LOVE the hair, super cute! I rarely wash my hair as well, most days I feel it is only a waste of time with all the blow drying and crap!
