Work, Play & No Sugar!

First off – did you win my giveaway???

————————————————

Second, I just started a new job!!!! So I’m super excited. I jumped on board with Epicure products. So I’m their newest consultant. Normally this kind of thing isn’t my style but for whatever reason I feel ‘hopefully optimistic’ (to quote my grandmother) I use their products regularly so why not try to make some money too :)

I love their spices and how easy it is to create great tasting food :) I even just finally made their extrodinary cheese dipChar, leave me alone – you know how I love my cheese :P

I took it to a family bbq/swim party….

My aunt Karen invited us over for a labour day swim! It was so nice to see my cousins and just catch up with everyone :)

….and I got to sit on a floaty orca!

I worked all day Sunday (and Sat) so the only time I had to do Laura’s Labour Day 5miler was bright and early in the morning. I had plans to do a 10km trail run with Leah but I worked at 11am and knew I wouldn’t get home till after 10 so I was relieved when she cancelled ;) but we do need to run together soon!

I had a great 8mile run by myself instead and as if my nike+ knew I needed a 5 mile time to submit it died at the 4.98 mark @ 53:26 ;) lol I sucked and didn’t take any run photos – so here’s one of Laura doing her’s – she looks far more hardcore than I did and she’s linking everyone’s recaps up! so go read them :)

it was just that good of a run, just couldn’t stop. I wore my Altras and my feet felt awesome:) Thanks for hosting Laura :)

I also joined The Athletarian in striking sugar out this month. I’ve been doing really well. Even when I’m craving sweet things I make adequate alternatives. Like the chocolate avocado pudding. You need to follow me on instagram to see them all ;)

I can’t believe this has been so easy for me, (yes I am aware it’s only the 4th)

When Logan heard there was no sugar this month he reacted a bit differently….

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I told him he could be exempted. I used to eat like crap and now my packed lunches look like this…

So I figure instead of forcing my new eating on the rest of my family I’ll just keep setting the example/sneaky healthy food in ;)

 Questions:

1. Have you ever heard of Epicure? Do you like their stuff?

I went to a party almost a year ago and fell in love. I’ve been using their stuff ever since. It’s only in Canada though so local friends – gather your friends and let me host a tasting foodie party for you :) …PLEASE

2. Do you like virtual races??

I love me a good virtual race! I think they’re fun and usually there’s some awesome swag that comes along with doing one :)

3. Have you ever eliminated sugar before??

NO! I remember the last time there was one going on I laughed and said NO WAY ;) but I thought, hey maybe I can do this! We’ll see. If anything it’s opening my eyes to how many things have sugar in them. I used ketchup yesterday and completely forgot there was glucose/fructose in that! oops!

PS: I can’t wait till October 1st when I can eat a pumpkin pie blizzard :) lol

  1. Good luck with the new work, I bet you will be fab and you can do as much or as little as you want or can :-) I can very well imagine Logan’s reaction to a sugar free month …. there would be out right mutiny in my house!

  2. What a fun weekend, and congrats on the new job!! I’m so impressed with your no sugar, I am always back and forth with it but finally figured out if I stop buying chocolate chips I won’t eat the whole bag in a week. :) . So glad you could participate in the virtual run!

    • Thanks Laura – congrats on L heading to preschool. I wonder if I should look into that for Logan :) and I am the SAME way…..there are chocolate chips here right now and I always want to eat the whole bag. Colin is always made that there’s never enough left to make cookies ;P lol

Sorry I didn’t have a race recap. I may run it again just for fun tonight!

  3. I cant wait to hear how the no sugar goes! Its funny because im trying to go sugar free for the next 11 days because thats my final weigh in for the biggest loser.
Are you sticking to a certian number of grams a day? My yogurt has 20 grams of sugar :(

    • Nice – keep in mind it’s no bad sugar, so no added fructose sucrose, glucose of white sugar. Raw honey, raw maple syrup, stevia, agave and such are ok :)

I always buy plain yogurt and add fruit and stevia or honey if I need to. and so no, I’m not counting grams. I’m just only eating “pure” sugars ;) I love honey. I find it works really well

  4. I am SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!! almost died at your pudding picture when you posted it on Instagram!! YOu are becoming quite the health addict. I like it!! Dean’s reaction was very similar to Logan’s hahahaha!! I’m already thinking of whatI will have as my treat on October first! Only 26 days to go! ;)

    • lol …I know it’s weird. I think it’s working for me because I’m taking it slow. It just kind of snowballed :) I’m excited and I feel lots better. I don’t even use dips for veg anymore! lol

  5. Congrats for new job!!! Never heard of Epicure product, when to their web page everything look amazing!!! I really like virtual races they are fun!!! I am very proud of you for no eating sugar for one months wooow! I dnt think I can do it! Maybe that could be my challenge for one week!!! So no fruits? Have a beautiful day!!!

    • I LOVE their products. Their was no fear of signing up because if I hate it I’ll just eat everything ;) lol I saw they have a raw maple syrup grinder!!!! I want it :)

You can totally eat natural sugars. So fruits, raw honey, raw maple syrup, stevia and all the other good sugars are fine. There is sugar in milk and such. What’s no allowed it white sugar, cane sugar, sucrose, glucose, fructose….all those “tose’s” lol

it’s surprisingly easy right now because you can still use other forms of sweet! I don’t feel deprived at all.

OH and the terry fox run starts in GAGE PARK in hamilton at 10. Registration is at 9:30. you just have to sign up and donate. There is NO minimum donation so even a dollar is fine :)

I keep forgetting to email you.

  6. My mom said she wanted to go on a sugar free diet so when we were having eggs this morning i told her she couldnt have ketchup with her eggs. She grabbed the ketchup bottle out of my hangs and ran with it. :D i dont think that i would last a week without sugar.:P im already drooling over the thought of a pumpkin pie blizzard!

    • HAHHA I love the image of your mom running away with the ketchup ;) lol

and I am SO EXCITED for september to be over and that blizzard to be in my hands too! lol….sorry for making you addicted ;P

  7. I always love coming on your blog Ali, you pretty much always make me smile! :-) I love the photo of you on that floaty orca :-P And the photo of Logan actually, bless him!

I’m so impressed that you’re going for the no-sugar month! I think if I tried really hard I could probably do it, I went with very little added sugar (so not including fruit) throughout Lent this year. However at this time of year I absolutely love doing lots of traditional baking so I wouldn’t get to eat any of my own baked goods!

Your chocolate avocado pudding looks delicious, good luck with the challenge lovely :-)

    • Thanks so much Sophie! Logan is so funny these days…..he kills me ;) I think I’ve already screwed up on the sugar cleanse…..I’m now reading labels as there is apparently sugar in everything not made by me at home. WHO KNEW!

I love baking but can’t do it or I’d lick everything clean….October i’ve got some cool ideas for baked goods though ;)

  8. Congrats on the new job:) Fun! I love virtual races and did the 10 miler for Laura’s race. I plan to do 5 today:) I have eliminated desserts before after I had my second child and needed to get the last poundage off. Not too bad actually:) Good luck!

  9. I started a food cleanse today and it doesn’t have added sugar for 3 weeks so I’m with ya! That chocolate avocado pudding looks amazing and I must make it right now!

    • It has proven to be very helpful considering I eat chocolate DAILY ;P so I just made that pudding and stuck it in a tupperware in the fridge and whenever I think I might devour the chocolate chips I eat a spoonful of it ;) lol

and I just visited and read about your cleanse – sorry on the phone, hate commenting on the phone. lol but it looks amazing and sounds like if you have any food issues this will let you know :)

  10. I have actually gone an entire year without sugar. Back in 1989, ya know – when most of you were born. hahaha. I would be in heaven just eating all the fresh fruit I wanted. I try to eat a moderately low carb diet but Dark Chocolate covered Pomegranate’s from Costco are my crack. I can’t even go to Costco. I’ve never heard of epicure, but will have to check it out. Good luck and Congrats!!

    • hey kathee….thanks for visiting and did I read correctly?!?!?! A WHOLE YEAR!!!

Epicure is pretty good stuff. tasty things for sure! I use their herb mixes in tons of stuff. It makes me look like I know what I’m doing in the kitchen and they’re only healthy ingredients – you know the ones you can read and pronounce ;) lol

PS: thanks for making me want dark chocolate ;P

      • Yeah, I was eating healthy before it was cool A whole year! I’m going to check out the website more. I clicked for a minute and I saw something about BACON. I’m sold!

  11. Congrats on the new job!! I didn’t think that I had heard of Epicure before, but now that I looked at the site, hubby bought me my FAVOURITE turquoise casserole from their site a few years ago! I’m going to have to snoop through the site again since I do have a bday coming.. lol

Virtual races can be fun for sure! I’ve done a few before and enjoyed it. But then again, I think I like actual races better because I run better when I’m surrounded by other people. That motivates me!

Never tried cutting sugar before… hmmm not that I eat a ton of suger but that might be tough as I’m not the biggest fan of sugar alternatives.. ie. stevia and such.

    • Well by all means email me and if you buy through me = it helps me :) and they have some pretty cute stuff in their new fall/xmas line. I want the raw maple sugar grinder – which is a GREAT sugar substitute and their red baker :) it’s so pretty!

  12. Sadly no I did not win your giveaway…wait did I enter? Hmmm don’t recall but I would like to win something sometime!

Looks like you had a great labour (notice the u…HA) day weekend…

  13. No sugar??!! I’m glad I didn’t get that memo in time. If you don’t start a month long project on the first of the month then there’s no point in doing it and I think I was baking on the first of the month – and we all know that I can’t bake without licking my fingers at least once.

Good luck with no sugar September. And give Logan a commiseratory hug from me.

  14. I recently bought some Epicure products this year. They are pretty awesome!
I have actually also been cutting back on my sugar consumption. More like trying to cut back my sweets. Like icecream, donuts, cookies. Yes ofcourse I ate all these in moderation but trying to cut them out entirely and I actually succeeded this week and it made a difference in my weight loss for the week.

    • You should buy them from me when you need more ;) lol as I have yet to sell anything :P

That’s awesome that you’ve been able to cut out cookies and ice cream. I don’t know if I could do it forever – I hope to get through this month :)

  15. Maybe I should do a no-dessert month. I’ve never done no sugar, but I have tried no desserts. I always, always lose weight doing it. Which tells me that I need to eat less dessert.:)

I ran that virtual race yesterday too. Gotta post my pics sometime.
