Hey guys!
So for anyone that doesn’t know I run on a hand-me-down treadmill. Why am I telling you this? well because while you guys complain about your treadmill runs I have even more right to complain because my treadmill is pretty old. (plus, incase you haven’t noticed I LOVE complaining
)
However I love this tready – I’m going to start calling her Ol’Betsy
It still works.
It still does its job.
and that’s all that matters.
I’m grateful, as I wouldn’t have one otherwise.
Anyway, so my tready’s digital dashboard is really basic.

In order to adjust the incline I actually have to get off my treadmill, lift it up and manually adjust the levels. So all these “interesting speed workouts” you speak, with switching up the incline, aren’t an option for me.

Unless I get on and off in between intervals. = which is exactly what I did avoided doing this morning!
I was going to try and put together an interesting workout for myself where I’d set it to the max incline, run super fast for 400 meters, then hop off re-adjust and cool down for 400: just like a hill.
However I woke up late and sore. Long story short – the last ZWOW I did kicked my trash and I didn’t leave work till after 10pm (we close at 9!) what’s a girl to do……
FOAM ROLL!!!!

* a little side tip for you – if you’re like me and rely on a lot of self-portrait mirror shots for you narcissistic blog, do yourself a favour and look up before snapping the photo! it makes it a little less self-admiring
so I did that for 30 mins…it was HELL

* it also helps if you make a super unattractive expression, so people know you’re not really just foam rolling staring at yourself …I certainly wasn’t ;P
Anyway, after all the foam rolling torture, I was all worked out and literally in more pain than before but hey, that’s foam rolling for you – I decided to hop on the tready before Logan awoke and get in some super fast paced short intervals.
I did 5 min walk, 5 min easy jog, the did 10 mins of 30sec intervals (30 average pace, 30 fastest pace…etc) then cool with another 5 mins of jogging and another 5 mins of brisk walking. SWEET!!!

* yay! it’s more ME!!!
I felt great after! it was a nice short workout but an extremely effective one nonetheless. If anyone is trying to burn fat, doesn’t have a lot of time or just beginning to run – interval training is AWESOME! It is way better at targeting fat than a slow steady run AND you don’t have to do it for very long. Warning: it will kick your butt regardless! lol
One amazing thing about owning Ol’ Betsy is that I don’t care if Rex goes on it for his new daily workout session….

….like seriously, I’m waiting.

Questions:
1. do you interval train for your running??
I haven’t done any short intervals like this since I started running, only longer speedwork sessions. I liked this super short workout because I was able to really push myself.
2. how often do you use a foam roller or the stick???
I seriously need to use it more!! I started using it PRIOR to my long runs and it’s been great. I want to try and use it daily…..we’ll see.
3. What’s your favourite day of the week? why??
Thursday. I don’t know.
Ol’Besty????? Hahahaha!!!!! I wish we had a treadmill so our dogs could run on it. They get so much energy sometimes! Favorite day of the week is deffinetly friday!!!!
as long as it works right?
does he really run on there?
I used to have a treadmill like that. I bought it at a neighbors garage sale for $80. I used it every day to train for a marathon. She did her job and never broke down:) I actually gave it to an old friend (that I am not friends with anymore) and am really mad about it:/ I wish I still had it! I do interval training sometimes, not enough. I have a foam roller that I need to really start using:) How did the treadmill walking go for Rex?:)
Oh Rex is such a sweetie!
I think once I get this other shot in my foot and I’m cleared to short running again, I’m going to start with intervals.
Never foam rolled….looks like a hoot.Is it worth trying?
