Pizza, Long Runs with PDR’s & Altra WINNER!!!!

Friday night little Lo and I went to the greatest restaurant on earth – Pizza Hut.

I don’t care what anyone says, greasy pan pizza and a good old family atmosphere is exactly what you need when you’re alone with a 3 year old. Logan’s new thing is eye closing while in photos.

We both got personal pan pizzas (I love olives – don’t judge), because, let’s be honest who doesn’t want a pizza they can call their own ๐Ÿ˜‰ and I got a salad. The entire meal, dessert and all put me out $20 = SCORE. Plus it killed time while Colin and his friends were jamming.

Logan is so good at sharing food. I have no idea where he gets this from because I literally cry when I have to share.

Anyway, yesterday Colin ran not only his first half marathon (in distance) but also 3 more miles after that for a total of 16miles on his long run! CONGRATS on the PDR babe. He has now officially passed me in distance. My longest run to date was the Road2Hope Half.

After he got back it was my turn to go out…..

He’ll probably be mad I put the above shot in…..but seriously! that’ll teach you to secretly grab your man breasts on my time again!! WTF?! lol

My run was rough to say the least. When I went to the healer lady last week she said I was just like my mother in the respect that I’m more of a “Oh, whatever I’ll just push through the pain” and regretfully that is what I’m like.

The above shot is of one waterfall I passed, Albion Falls. I took my run sooooooooo slow to start and set out to do 8 miles. I ended up finishing 7 miles though my running gps was set to snowboarding ๐Ÿ˜‰ lol so my stats are kind of wacky. lol

Here are my splits…..I’m getting super slow.

  • Mile 1 – 11:49
  • Mile 2 – 11:38
  • Mile 3 – 11:20
  • Mile 4 – 11:40
  • Mile 5 – 11:46
  • Mile 6 – 10:39
  • Mile 7 – 11:16

I will have to learn consistency. My long runs used to be at a 10:30 then they crept into the low 11’s but now this is getting kinda ridiculous.

After a good 25 min stretch out and icing and heating pads topped with compression gear I can’t walk today…..YAY! <— sarcasm. I’m not impressed with my running lately. I can’t wait till my body feels better.

Oh……I guess all you guys really want to know is who won the Altras….

Congrats to: NICOLE!!!!!!ย

Thanks to everyone who participated! Nicole email me and we will get you your new shoes!!! alimc[at]runningwithspatulas[dot]com :)

* If the winner does not contact me by March 4th I will select a new winner, though I will do my best to contact you if you win*

what’s your favourite restaurant??

If I’m not with kids, I actually prefer fine dinning, non-corporate restaurants. I like the little hidden gems in the world :)ย

have you ever got much significantly slow in your running?? how did your self-esteem cope??

I have. This time last year I was so injured I couldn’t run. Right now it seems like something really needs to be done in order for me to be able to run. Unfortunately I have so many outside factors at play, including a hip flexor strain. :( I’ll get fast again though!ย

Any encouraging words for Colin?? he said he HATED that run…..I don’t want him to hate running due to this crazy distance I made him run.ย

PS: tomorrow Spatula Runner Virtual Race info will be posted!!!! GET excited :)ย

  1. Bummer! For a minute there I thought I had won something, because my name is Nicole. Oh wellโ€ฆ

I’m running quite slow right now. I think I’m suffering from the Winter Blues. If only Spring would finally spring I would become fast again.

    • Ya, I’m running slow due to pain and injuries but winter definitely slows you down. Although, I find I’m slowest in the middle of summer with that hot humid heat BLAH! and too bad :(

  2. I am like you in terms of fine dinning, but I agree on the HUT and also love the Keg (mmm steak). I will NEVER turn down Swiss Chalet either.

I was a lot slower after I had Fergus. I just took my time, listened to my body and didn’t push too much (much easier when you have a newborn sucking a lot of other attention and time).

In terms of Colin: Shitty runs happen. It is better that it happened now and not during the race. These make us stronger and make the good runs that much sweeter. I already said so on DM to him, but the offer to run ATB together is still there. Wayne and I will be running around 10 min miles….

    • The only time I ever order steak…or ate steak for that matter was when I was pregnant ๐Ÿ˜‰ I must’ve needed some iron. lol I remember the waitress thought something was wrong with my meal b/c I was cringing but it was because I don’t like eating red meat…..I was like, I’m so grossed out, but it tastes so good ;P lol

and I only started running after Logan was one year old, so I cant even imagine running with a newborn!!!

  3. I’m in the same injury bin as you; I think I can push through it but reality check says I cant :-( Mines my IT band its cr@p to have to admit you need help. I went to an osteopath today, feel slightly better but need to remember to keep up my resting, icing, and stretching! Now I need to add some strength – my BIG down fall.

Keep the focus, let it heel xx

    • My IT band only bothered me that ONE run, it’s just tight. So obviously something I can quickly nip in the bud. I’m glad I caught it fast. Now I’m trying to find some good stretches and just foam roll regularly.

I feel you though, it sucks when you just want to run but you have to take the time to do the healing :( xo

  4. You are seriously AWESOME for getting in 7 miles in the cold while injured!! And don’t beat yourself up for slowing down a little, maybe that’s just what your body needs right now and you’re SMART for listening to it. I go through the same thing sometimes – I’m not a naturally fast runner (and just happened to have run my worst half marathon of my life on Saturday… I didn’t train for it, it hurt like hell and I did an awful lot of walking in the last few miles!) I was upset about my crappy time until my bf reminded me that most people sat around on their couches while I was out running – and the same goes for you. That makes us awesome :)

    • Aw thanks Jenn :) your comment makes me feel like a rockstar. I can’t imagine running a half untrained. Hence why I’m SO thankful I got out of doing the full 30km! only 4 weeks to go.

BUT you’re right – you finished and you were much better than everyone else doing nothing!!!! CONGRATS

  5. I hate sharing food too! It drives me crazy when I want to order dessert at a restaurant and hubs says, “I’ll just have a little of yours.” I’ll BEG him to get his own, but he’ll say, “But I don’t want a whole one. I just want a little of yours.” TOO BAD! I want my OWN!!!!

    • hahaha ….that’s me exactly. Though, to be fair I do still ask for bites or sips of what Colin is having and he HATES it…..I just expect everything to go my way ๐Ÿ˜‰ lol

  6. I love Pizza Hut! My Hubby hates it so I only get to indulge when he is out of town. Which I guess is good for my waistline!
Sorry to hear about the pain you are having after your run. Don’t worry about your time so much. Takes all the fun out of running. Plus, you have a strain you are nursing so that would also account for a slower time. I am a slow runner. I have been running for a long time and never been fast. Usually in the spring my times get a little faster. Running should be a fun release, maybe try running without a gps tracker and just let your body and heart make the pace.

    • Yes, you’re right! I won’t track next time. To be honest it was more so b/c I didn’t feel like mapping a run out and I was testing out this new app on my phone. I was surprised that it gave me my mile splits and elevation and mapped my route. It was definitely cool regardless.

We can always go to Pizza Hut together :) lol

  7. I’m so sorry about the pain. I hope it starts feeling better soon. I really had to work on getting my speed back after my stress fracture. It will come.
As for your husband hating the long run- I don’t know if I have any encouragement because I really don’t enjoy them, either ;). It does get easier, if that helps.

  8. Congrats to Colin on his PDR and to YOU for getting out there! My runs have sucked lately too but hey, a run is still a run. Be proud for pushing through no matter how long it took you.

I don’t even know if I’ve ever been to Pizza Hut!! Can you believe that?! That pizza looks so yummy though. I am obsessed with green olives. Whenever I go to Subway I ask them to load them on!! I think I will have to try Pizza Hut one day soon though. I tend to like small and NON fancy restaurants. Every single time I’ve tried to go to a “nice” restaurant, there was never anything on the menu that appealed to me. I like my food simple and delicious and I want A LOT on my plate. I’m not a fan of big plates with one tiny morsel of food on it. No thanks. Bring on the pizza.

  9. I’m not a good food-sharer either. Did anyone else get any of those chocolates you sent? No, because I hid them and scoffed them in secret. I even told off Iven yesterday for eating my very expensive lactose-free ice cream. He would give me the shirt off his back but I won’t share ice cream. Aren’t I the BEST wife ever?!!

  10. I read Colin’s dailymile and my one suggestion would be to have a route planned, that way he won’t have to run a 2 mile loop twice in the middle just to get the miles done. Having a plan definitely helps make a run go easier. 16 miles (I think we ran that for our marathon training) or around that point didn’t go well for me either, just that little extra past the half marathon distance is tough. He did it though!

I do like Pizza Hut, it brings me back to my childhood. haha
