We had breakfast for dinner yesterday.
I LOVE breakfast foods….however add in the fact that it’s after 5:30pm and I’m floored!!!!

Why is it that syrup tastes so much better after dark??
…..segue!
We have REAL maple syrup. I think it was Kristen that once pointed out that I have the fake stuff in my profile picture and that, plus the fact that I was Canadian didn’t sit well with her
So I make it a note to ALWAYS only have the real deal.
So yesterday when Colin poured some syrup onto his pancakes and GREEN particles followed! I shouted EW that’s mould!!!
So I poured the rest of the bottle into a clear glass just to be sure…..

Yep, that sure is mould. *cue gag reflexes now* YUCK!
I was wondering why….HOW on earth syrup could go bad in my home until I realized that we forgot to keep it refrigerated.
What’s that? You’re wondering how someone could forget something as hygienic and important as to read storage labels and put condiments where they belong???
……welcome to my life as a wife married to Colin; where condiments reside in the CUPBOARD!!!

Mustard, Ketchup, BBQ sauces, sweet and sour….all things that say please refrigerate after opening are here. In dry storage. It’s a compromise I made when I married Colin. I got to do some things my way ….ie: keeping bread in the cupboard and NOT the fridge and I get a whole room to myself (sewing, desk, closet, workout) and he got the condiments in the cupboard.
His argument is that his family did this for their entire life and that nothing bad ever happened to them. The amount of preservatives keeps things 100% edible….isn’t that kind of scary?? what are we eating that remains fine for so long!!
However, we normally keep REAL syrup in the fridge, it’s the fake stuff that can sit out till the end of time.
Lesson learned.

In other food news, I think I have discovered one of my new favourite snacks…
…..crackers with cucumber, chickpeas and cheese on them!!

I was just not in the mood to make hummus and when I threw my veggie and snack try together it felt like it was missing something so I just tossed chick peas in the centre.

who know I’d end up loving this concoction. I highly recommend it, if you can stand peas rolling off with every bite. It takes a skilled eater to consume these treats

where do you keep your condiments?? anyone with team Colin in the cupboard??
I know it sounds gross (as it used to for me) but the bigger fear here is the fact that these things still haven’t gone bad or changed in consistency. One time my BIL left a tub of margarin out for half a year and it never changed consistency. Ever since we eat butter.
margarin or butter?? or none??
I love butter!!! but I use healthier oils like olive or flax whenever possible.
what is your current go to snack?? I need some more ideas of healthy eats!
veggies to be good for my body and cheese and tasty crackers to subside my bad cravings
